Hey guys this is the first time I have filmed on the mountain and I was looking for a critique on the filming, editing, color correcting ext... I understand that a few of my shots where extremely over exposed, I tried to fix in post but it messed with the shots to much. Also who knows a good codec for the NS movie uploader. Last time I tried to upload a video I couldn't get it to work as a Mpeg or an mp4.

Filmed over the course of a few weekends of preseason at Purgatory in Durango Mountain Resort and Red mountain pass. Edited and color corrected in two days on Sony Vegas Pro 10.

Filmed with a Canon T2i with a 18-55mm lens.

is that the lens that originally come with the t2i ?

Yes, the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS is the kit lens that commonly comes with the T2i, it's a shitty lens.

Agreed, at the moment I can afford to upgrade, but I will be purchasing a 50mm f 1.8 for christmas. Also hopefully I can buy a polarizer to help with my exposure issues.

I think you mean an ND filter, right? Polarizers are used for things like making the sky a deeper blue and cutting reflections out of water and glass.


I'll critique it when I get a chance, it's not loading for me right now.

the video won't load for me, says its not available, but as far as uploading to vimeo, use the h.264 codec at 1280x720p resolution. then for audio use 44.1kHz AAC. these are the settings i use anyway and never have a problem. hope this helps

Hmm that's strange it was working earlier and still works for me. Yeah I upload it to Vimeo as an h.264 but that won't work on ns does anyone have setting for that?

oh thats weird it works fine now. anyway for a critique i think besides what you know to watch your exposure levels, the cloudy days when its snowing or the one when you're in the powder jump, those shots seemed a little dull to me and to maybe up the saturation a tiny tiny bit and add a little more contrast between the colors to give it that extra "pop." maybe bring the whites up a bit on those as well and then they will look a lot better. overall tho nice edit. just keep at it

the vid worked for me...

I loved the Oncue song, that song is sick as hell. As for critiques in the beginning try to cut your shots a little shorter at the end, in some of them there was just blank space of the jump and I think I saw a tripod laying on the ground in one of the shots? Also, try to work on keeping your camera steady or still when you are filming still shots like the shots in the intro part and between scenes. Also, try to color correct, just a little bit of a difference between the different places you filmed, and maybe make sure your aperature is high enough when filming in flatlight?

Just a rough critique, hope it worked brotha

Thank you, yeah believe it or not this is the color corrected footage i just did a few touch ups, it looks much better then it did before. And yeah I am working on stabilization, right now I am just filming with a Walmart tripod for my tripod shots and my follow cam shots. Thank you though, much appreciated.
