Any Kidney Donors on NS? Do you still ski hard? What precautions do you take or protection do you wear?

I'm in the process of becomming a donor for my dad, and I want to see if there's anybody out there that charges super hard with one kidey. Thanks guys!

I have a friend who had his kidney out after injuring it skiing. He's just come back, and shreds just as hard. I'm pretty impressed with him, mentally he seems to be right back where he was this spring. Injury happened in April, and he's back shreddin now, pretty impressing. I don't know if he takes any special precautions or wears special safety stuff, bit i'll ask him and get back to you. And respect for giving a kidney to your dad, that's proper good karma right there!

my sister was born with one kidney, no affect on her skiing or doing anything for that matter in everyday life. I guess you just have to be careful at what you do and no your limit. My sister slays the trees and stuff which is awesome to see. Lightens your day up.

i dont know personally, but my assumption would be that as long as you have a at least one healthy kidney, things should go as normal once healed up from surgery. again, thats awesome youre doing that for your dad

My Mum donated a kidney to her friend a few years ago and still shreds the groomers pretty hard.

I've never been into urban or any super gnarly rails so I think just being careful getting speed right on jumps and getting pads just in case will be the best thing to do.

Big ups for being a donor.

I was born with one. Can't say that I've ever really thought about it while skiing.

Parents wouldn't let me play football. That's about the only limit it's placed on me.

This may sound odd but a buddy of mine was in a mountain biking accident and now has 1 1/2 kidneys, never slowed him down, he does snowboard, but still goes hard.

I split my kidney open 2 seasons ago and Im alright. But thats definitely not the same as donating. I'm sure you'll be able to shred just as hard. +K for the courage and love for your pa

Have Doctor's ever talked to you about the risks or tried to convince you not to play contact sports or ski "Dangerously" as adults like to call it?

All the literature I've read advises to "Avoid contact sports" ..."Including lacrosse" doesn't explicitly mention skiing, but I assume it's implied.

I play lacrosse at a pretty high level, and ski pretty hard, and have no real intentions of stopping. Just being careful.

Hey mate, check out have a look at kidney belts. They are sort of like that Nike chest pad you are looking at but it just covers your lower abdomen rather than your entire torso.

You should be able to find them in most motor bike shops that deal in motocross gear.
