I have filmed in a blizzard with my T2i and it was completely fine. I just put the lens cap on whenever I wasn't filming and I covered it with my arms on the lift. Probably not the best idea I'm sure, but it didn't have any problems.
I also filmed in pretty hard rain with my HVX uncovered and it was fine. Once again, probably not the best idea, but my point is that a lot of cameras are more weather resistant than you would expect.
