Time Lapse

Hey Newschoolers,

I have just made a short time lapse of Melbourne Australia, nothing reall special just wanted to see if you guys liked it.

K+ for any thoughts, or ideas for improvement

didn't really feel too tilt shifty to me just because of the natural fish-eye on the gopro. so maybe just crop that out a little bit and aim the camera a little more to the right and down in that same scene and it would have enhanced it i think mainly because those tall buildings on the left took up most of the shot but you wanted your plane of focus on the street. anyway cool timelapse for sure, maybe just get a little more of the street for the "tilt shifting" effect to really pop. thats maybe what i would try at least. cool shots tho for sure

Putting a selective blur on a shot does not make it tilt shift. I hate it when people do this in video and stills. If you are going to try and make it look like tilt shift, you need to have an actual plane of focus, not just some random sharp area.

Random thought... i get how to photoshop tilt-shift but I dont understand how to tilt-shift video. A noob question, but could you explain?

pretty much identical but usually you are tilt shifting a time lapse, or video from a stationary camera so you do all the same effects on adobe after effects that you would on photoshop.

No. You shoot with a tilt-shift lens, or use a 4x5 view camera where you can tilt or swing the lens plane.. The reason people don't do it right is because they have never used a real tilt shift lens before so they don't know the exact effect or why it looks that way.

Here is an example. You can see how you are able to literally tilt or shift the lens separate from the film plane.

yeah you are right. if you really want to shoot true tilt shift photography or time lapse, you have to have the right lens yes and that is technically the only true way to do it. but if you are poor like me, you can "mimic" it a lil bit in photoshop or after effects. however, if you have a complex picture you better put some complex work into it because i have seen some real shitty attempts at trying to fake tilt-shift and its really obvious and really cheesy. but if i had extra money, i would get a lens like that to play around with for sure. REAL tilt shift is awesome and not just the blurred pictures/vids they can produce but everything about a lens like that
