purple is typically a darkside color as well. the three main jedi colors signify which area of study a padawan takes within the jedi order. those looking to become a Jedi Guardian traditionally go with blue light saber, Jedi Consulars the yellow blade and Jedi Sentinels the green.

i also might have gotten the colors mixed up for sentinels and consulars, been a bit since i've read or played anything with jedi training and such.

The Darth Bane trilogy was absolutely amazing. Best Star Wars books I've ever read. You learn about the a lot of Sith history, and they're just incredible.

but thats just a tradition, and is not necessary. when a jedi is selecting his crystal he can have whatever color he can find / successfully meditate on.
