Most of us share a similar love for skiing. Lately i have found i love skiing more than anything, nothing makes me quite as happy. Some of you may say i need to get some friends, but when i say skiing i mean all of skiing. The people i meet from skiing, skiing with friends, shredding park, powder, groomers, eating lunch in the lodge and even car rides to and from the mountain.

Ive been doing some thinking about my future lately and dread the ideas of years without skiing. I can safely say that if i didn't have skiing i would have no clue what i would be like. All of my friends and much of my mindset are derived from different aspects of skiing.

I still value the importance of education and plan on attending a university for 4 or more years depending if i get a grad degree. Of course that college will be picked partially based on geographic location (thinking Uni of BC vancouver, UW, U boulder) (oh and im a junior right now with a solid gpa, 3.75)

My question is how can i manage to get a job somewhere, for example TNF, where skiing coincides with work? My dream would be to the head of such a company eventually. I want my life to be completely immersed in skiing. What kind of degree or path should i take that could possibly land me a job in such a position?


Hopefully this thread doesn't come off with some sort of connotation that i want to run skiing or something like that. I really just want to know how to ski for the rest of my life, not just being a weekend warrior, or to be involved in skiing for the rest of my life without bumming.

All responses will be read, and karma will be sprinkled to those who know what they're talking about and who dont speak out their ass.

Also props to people who i feel are currently living the dream. On3p guys, causwell/surface/joystick guys, eric pollard among others.

Get a job working for any ski related businesses, for example Armada, Line, Full Tilt, Saga, Salomon, Moment, Marker, Causwell, etc. Or just start your own skiing related business. I agree so much with your post, that's exactly what I'm like.

Go to school for something you enjoy. There are so many aspects to the ski industry and support systems for ski resorts, that you'll be able to find work that will let you be immersed in skiing.

I'm finishing up a graduate degree right now in environmental studies and am looking at aspects of work related to ski resort environmental impacts. I didn't choose a program with skiing in mind though, but I have been able to adapt it to hopefully work.

I forgot to mention. Grad school is sweet, I recommend it. I am currently getting paid by the university to live in Revelstoke, ski all day, and write my thesis in the afternoons.

Also, become a doctor. Work 3-4 short days a week in a ski town and then shred the rest of the time.

That sounds unreal dude. Way to go. I was going to suggest a business or marketing degree to make yourself more attractive to larger ski companies. Not sure how much time those guys spend on the slopes annually, but they have a lot of opportunities to travel to resorts and locales for expos and conferences that some of us only dream about...

Good luck to you! Your situation sounds sick man! I would love to be able to only work 3-4 days a week but i dont think being a doctor is my calling.

And where do you go and get paid to live in revelstoke?

If you're in sciences in Canada, you can get a ton of funding and pretty much get paid a salary while doing grad school. And when you're done your field work and courses, you can go anywhere you want to write your thesis and finish up the degree.

I was in the same boat 6 years ago. But i strongly recommend that you NOT pick your college based on skiing. Figure out where you want to live, then figure out what types of job are available in said locationg, then choose your career path based on that. 4 years with not much skiing is a lot better than being broke as fuck and not skiing at all working on mcdonalds.

I guarantee 95% of the people on here are going to pick there location or where they want to live in regards to skiing...

Just a heads up, the majority of people who run ski companies or are higher up in Ski Resorts definitely do NOT get to ski all day every day. It's up to you to find(or create) a job which lets you ski as much as you want to. Some people trade stocks, work night jobs, some combine business with pleasure(coaching, instructing, video/photo etc). There's also something to be said for limiting yourself(if you get to ski everyday, you may end up not appreciating it as much as the weekend warrior).

I know that both Smith and Scott's factories are located in Sun Valley, which is about a 5 minute drive to the mountain.

We all have this dream. The fact is, there are no straight forward answers to your questions.

If you want to make it happen, go out and getter done for yourself - thats the only answer.

Yeah i may try and weasel my way in somewhere. Hopefully when im out of college theres a new company looking for someone like me to hop on board.

Only time will tell.
