Binding for opus/bent chet

Bro and I are getting new skis- opus and bent Chet. Both of us weigh 160. Ride big mtn only, powerful hobby style, I land switch all day, bro does not. We both ride 7.5 din. Planning on Look 12s. Any reason to get rossis or griffons instead? Also, what do we do about brakes if we order from Eco, since the skis are over 115mm wide... Thanks for the input!

Well first of all, rossis and looks are identical. 2nd of all, how aggressively do you ski? If you're considering a 12 din binding, you're 160lbs and you ride a 7.5 din, it can't be THAT aggressive. People on here will bag on griffons all day, but honestly, they're just fine for what you make yourself out to be doing. Also, markers are a lot lighter than the PX series, and very wide brakes are more readily available for them. At this level of binding, just get whatever's cheapest (but don't get squires)

Thanks for the input. I charge hard, don't drop cliffs bigger than 10ft any more. Have already blown my knees and won't do it again, that's why we ski such reasonable din settings.

the look pivot series and rosi fks series both offer a lateral release system.

these are great for people with knee concerns, now you said you dont need a high din binding so the metal 18 dins are out of the way, however i ride at a 10-11, and i much prefer having the metal 18 din over the plastic 14.

the sth is also a good line of binding, i would only consider the driver toe though, since that is what people rave about them.

So does the px offer the same features in a 12 din as the pivot or is it remarkably different?

very remarkably different, they used to make a fks120 but not in recent years

the rossi fks14(look p14) piviots the px does not, this is better if you are worried about your knees.

griffons suck, dont buy anything marker unless it is the jester or duke, or one of their race bindings which happen to be great.

This is simply NOT true. Well yes, they release to the side (laterally) from the toe piece. All bindings do this. The Pivots do NOT release laterally from the heel. The heel piece has metal parts on both sides of the boot. These make it physically impossible for the boot to be released sideways.

Some people consider the FKS/Pivot heel to be safer than other bindings because the pivot point (when releasing laterally from the toe piece) is right under the heel, compared to behind the heel on other bindings. This is because the heel piece pivots with the boot.

I really like my Look Pivots. I recommend those. Before I got the Pivots I used Jesters, which are very good too. Between the two of those I prefer Pivots though.

Clearly the best of the best is the P14/18 or FKS style clamp, you just need to get something with a wide brake. If you charge you don't want plastic bindings because they will eventually have issues- so rule out Markers. The Tyrolia/4frnt/Amplid/Head 15 and 18 DIN binding is also legit if you're not trying to fork out maximum cash like you would for the FKS/P18.
