Assuming you are a Cardinals fan? I whole heartedly (sp?) agree with you.
BUT it was a smart move from his point of view. 10 year deal. Of course his stats are going to start to tail off towards the end. So he has to play in AL where he can be a DH. He'll be able to pad his stats and im sure he will get at least 1 ring. Scioscia is a great manager. He's going to be a savior to baseball in LA. The Dodger's are in the shitter and going to be for a long time. Plus he avoids the circus that is going to be the Miami Marlins.
That said he should of stayed in St. Louis.
Me being a Yankee fan Im not happy about it. The Angels are always right there and this will make them the dominant team in the AL.
I agree. I just really wanted to see a player of his status and ability have some loyalty to a team and play with one team his entire career. He would have gone down as one of the greatest Cardnials ever. Still might, but it would have been nice to see a player play for a team not for a contract.
People seem to forget Baseball is a business, the players aren't looking out for what the fans want it is what they themselves want. So you can bitch and moan until you cry a river of tears, it isn't going to matter
People forget that every sport is a business. A very high % of athletes now only care about what team will give them the most money, not what team they would like to play for.
I haven't forgotten that at all. Pujols just seemed like a guy who wanted to finish his career in St. Louis. I was really pulling for a player to finally play for the game and not for the money.
But at the end of the day it is a business. And he acted accordingly.
Damn mobile. Puljos was smart to take this deal. 10 years with no trade clause. Even if he falls off the map, he is getting paid through 2022. But I, too, value loyalty, and it isn't like he would be making chump change if he stayed in st. louis. Oh well. This is great news for the AL west. Sure it'll suck for a few years, but once he declines, the angels will have a good chunk of payroll locked up.
a player dominates year after year for you and all he asks for is a long contract and you won't give it to him. THAT is a lack of loyalty, if the cardinals don't think highly enough of him to even come close to the offer he wants than he did everything right in leaving.
He will go down as one of, if not, the best hitters in baseball. first ballot hall of famer easily, pay the man his dues
I'm from St. Louis and it sucks, we got his career started and he does this? he has already made millions and millions of dollars, but I guess another 55 mill is more important to him. Hes prob like 35 anyways
I'm Not even a cardinals fan just a hung fan of baseball in general and it makes me so upset to see that it's all about money now. He was a legend in st. Louis and will probably be the best player the franchise will have. Now he's leaving for a team that always chokes at the end of the season. It's a shame.
9 years isnt long enough? That would of taken him through his 40th bday.
His decision was clearly about money. Dont get me wrong the guy could retire tomorrow and be a hall of famer. But there is no reason to paint this picture any other way.
Pretty ticked to see Pujols leave the Cardinals but I really didn't care where he ended up. He could have cemented his fucking name all over Busch Stadium, even with the legends that have played there, but chose to leave. When the marlins started chasing him tightly you could tell he was going to leave. From his standpoint, this contract is gold. He gets to play 10 years, will probably get to DH a bunch towards the end, makes $250 million and then retires to luxury. I don't blame him, I just believe he should have stayed. This deal is like Lebron's leaving Cleveland, certainly a great opportunity awaits him but damn it would have been pretty cool to see him stay in St. Louis. I hope St. Louis picks up Prince just to spite Pujols.
Never said they were. Just feels like the athletes of old had some team loyalty and were for the city and team just as much as the fans. I knew someone was going to blow the cards deal out of the water. I just was hoping Pujols stuck with how he said he really wanted to stay in St. Louis. But money talks.
saw the royals play a couple years ago against the pirates. Only time ive been to a field besides Fenway. It was weird it was like a ghost town with empty seats which was odd because every sox game sells out. not pretty lol.
