Tried uploading some videos to youtube and facebook! Well I guess mashups are copyrighted too. FUCK THEM! I am tired of this bullshit. Vimeo is the only good place to upload now.
no no no... theres nothing wrong with uploading copyrighted work as long as you don't claim it as your own. I think that as long as credit is givin to the artist and the record company, people should be able to share and upload music as they please. It's a way more natural way for the music industry to work and is probably good for the industry because of the publicity songs get.
putting content up available for download is another story... but damn i can't say i dont love that shit
this. and hes not claiming it! if you are throwing it on to a ski video, it should be allowed as long as you give the credit of the song and the artist. all it can do is help the artist out by giving them more coverage
Wow, you overreacted man. I wasn't even being a dick.
From your original post it sounded like you were talking about posting a mashup purely for the music, the way people do on Youtube. I'm sure you understand how it sounded like that. I apologize for assuming, but Jesus, calm down a little.
And why would you say my videos are bullshit? I never called your mashups bullshit...doesn't make sense man.
But even then stating "Keep vimeo for real videos" seems just a tad bit stuck up and exclusive. I agree it should be kept to quality videos. But don't act like you are all cool and better than everyone else.
And it isn't a mashup again! Even if it was a mashup of my own, i feel i should have the right to post it and accompany it with animation and cgi art.
agreed. I don't want to make money off of it and steal it. And WMG and all the artist are doing fine. Not to say it's not wrong though. But a lot of the time it's the licenses like WMG pulling the plug, not the individual artists themselves.
I have a strong feeling youtube is going to see a severe lack in video uploads and revenue this next year.
I wasn't acting like I was better than anybody, nor was I acting stuck up.
Vimeo is for REAL videos with substance. Real video content that users have produced themselves.
Youtube is for all the other shit, like songs and stuff like that.
When I read your first post, I was imagining a mashup with just an album cover as the 'video.' That's why I said what I did. Because not only do we not want that kind of stuff on Vimeo, it's actually not allowed on Vimeo. I was just trying to make sure it stays that way. Nothing wrong with that.
That being said, you weren't trying to do that, so it's neither here nor there I guess. If you were to post a song with a legitimate animation or something, then that's fine. But if it's a song with the equivalent of the iTunes visualizer, then that's doing nothing but cluttering video hosting sites.
i agree to a certain extent that people should be allowed to use music for edits and stuff when they clearly give credit to the artist and the label in the description and in the video itself.
i can understand the labels though. for a lot of not-so-good-with-computer people, youtube is thepiratebay and they listen there to their shit.
