Replying to Bone Regrowth
I broke my 5th metatarsal (long pinky toe bone) about 7 weeks ago while skateboarding. This bone is notoriously slow for regrowing, mostly due to poor circulation if your feet. It usually takes 8-14 weeks to heal unlike most bones that at 4-8. I was reading about people who've experienced this fracture online and the general conclusion was that the return to hard physical activity didn't happen for at least 12 weeks. When i read this i was really bummed. The beginning of my season was overlapping my recovery time...
At 6 weeks i got my followup xray, and there was already bone growing on the fracture. I've read on various forums that people at 6 weeks usually have no growth at all (with the metatarsal fracture). I was very surprised, and even more so when the doctor said i can start skiing. Eff yea.
Obviously it still hurts and I'm not skiing 100%, but at least im shreddin.
Aside from the long winded introduction, i wanted to share my concoction of vitamins i took every morning for my recovery. I researched these supplements, and they are supposed to aid in bone regrowth.
Calcium - 1200-2200 mg per day
Boron - difficult to find on its own, but there's a specific Citrical (calcium) product that comes with it
Lysene - 1000 mg Research showed that the application of lysene in rats with bone growth deficiency needed lysene to produce bone
Potassium - Part of a multivitamin i took
Vitamin C - 1000mg aids in the absorption of calcium
Altogether i bought 4 bottles; one Citrical (with boron), Lysene, multivitamin, and Vitamin C
If you break a bone, i suggest trying these. Its worth a shot, i think it played a definite part in my recovery.
Peace crackers,
Steven
