Looking for a new pow ski, currently I have first gen jj's but core is starting to rot because of heel piece ripping out. Surface look to have some cool skis and I like what the company is about. I'm living in the Interior of B.C. and my main focus for the year is shredding pow and I want a ski that is going to turn well in trees and stay strong hitting cliffs, pillows, and big lines, also something that I can tour with but thats not my main focus.

I'm 5"10 and 165. So far looked at New life 184/194 and Live Life 191, also the Drifter 191. I understand the skis are a lot stiffer but how is that compared to the JJ? Also quality wise I want something that is bomb proof. I'm going to mount my fks 14 din xxl bindings on them, going to have to bend brake. Any experience putting those bindings on those skis?

Really appreciate any help.

184 or 194 newlifes, depending on your style

they are burly as hell, stiff, but still super floaty and jibby. I love them. you will too.

yea looks like a real solid ski. You notice the stiffness? I like a surf style to my skiing. I like to think I'm snowboard influenced. My jj's have lasted me quite a few years but they are on there last bit of life. Would love a ski that is going to last me and I want something I'm going to love just as much as I love the jj's. Just looking to try some new shapes and the price is what made me start looking at them.

194 to much ski to control in the trees? whats the running length?

well, considering they should be mounted dead center, they won't feel all that long. the only thing I notice is that the tails have a harder time releasing than say a ski like the s7 with a pintail and set back stance. The running length is actually quite short, but that's where the stiffness comes into play. they maintain a playful feel because of the short running length but at the same time you don't have a complete noodle when you need to point it or huck something. What I actually like the most is that the three stage rocker gives you a platform to butter or press off of rather than a curved rocker like effect. It feels much less like your skis are going to shoot out from under you and more like you lock in to a press or butter.

the running length on the 184s is about 81cm, i can take a profile shot if you want to see the rocker.

He's pretty much summed up the New Life for you.
If you look into the Live Life (Drifter), they'll be much softer in the tips and tails, yet stiffer underfoot. I haven't skied them personally, but I flexed them and talked to a patrol that was skiing on them.
Their tips and tails are noticeably softer than the New Life or One Life (I have a review in my profile for the One Life).
Along with the softer tips, the Live Life's have more of a traditional rocker profile to them.

i skied on one lifes (189) last year and just picked up a pair of new lifes (184) the one life, while goofy looking, rips. its definitely stiffer throughout the whole ski than either the new life or live life. the large amount of rocker can make it feel a little unstable when you are flying on hardpack but as soon as you get it in the pow it just charges. the short effective edge and forward mounting mount let it pivot really easy to though. it was my every day ski last year at crested butte where a good season is 300 inches and average is probably 250. i was never dissapointed. ive only ridden the NL's one day on groomers and hard pack but honestly they were awesome. we'll see though after i get more days on them
