while i don't necessary understand your plight, where you've come from, or what you've been through, i understand your anger. I don't agree with it, but i don't mean to offend you by any means with what i intend to say. i'm sure that you and your family have worked hard for everything you have and i truly respect that.

my family is by no means part of the 1%, we don't have a car newer than 2003, my parents both drive vehicles with no less than 120,000 miles on them, but we are certainly better off than most. my dad has worked for everything we have, and i intend to do the same. what bothers me the most about this movement, and society in general, are the people that put in nothing but expect everything in return. if i have worked my way to pulling $50mil a year, damn right i'm going to buy myself a ferrari and a big ass house. by no means do i need these things, but i've earned them. i put in the work, i don't feel compelled to share with those who went to $50k/yr universities to study english and are somehow astounded that they don't have a job. that was your choice, not mine. however, i will provide for those truly in need. the disabled, the elderly, veterans on the street, people who would jump at the chance for a minimum wage job and to provide for others. that's valiant and i will forever provide for those who do everything but can't seem to make ends meet.

Its not like people steal the money they have and thats why they are rich, they earned it and worked hard to get there, no one needs/should tell them what they should or should not do with it. Plenty of people have gone from nothing to multi millionaires, just takes work and dedication.

Oof, everyone in that video is ridiculous.
I'm frankly utterly disappointed in where OWS went. It could have been a real movement towards the undermining of capitalism and coercion-based hierarchy, but it's attracted masses of people that clearly don't have the drive to educate themselves on the very thing they're picketing for.
All the effort that has been put into this movement has been for nothing, largely because they failed to target the media as viciously as they should have. The 1% paid for the media to do its job: to turn public opinion of dissent sour. Had the original organizers, many of whom I spoke with, targeted the media, the movement would have gained the right momentum. The more shit like this video that you see of occupiers making fools of themselves, the more credibility is taken from the REAL movement.

None of it even matters, once economic collapse sets in, we're on auto-pilot to real autonomy. It starts with the individual, and these people don't seem to realize that.
A large segment of the anarchist community, myself included, is totally discontented with where this went. It sucks.

7 Step Program to Ruin Your Life

He said "synecdoche," which makes perfect sense because he was discussing how the idiots Schiff was interviewing don't represent the whole movement.

On a side note, the argument that "a few idiots don't represent the whole" doesn't really apply here since essentially every person who thinks camping outside of Wall Street is going to change anything is stupid. Schiff is right; these people should be protesting the White House. Instead all they're doing is regurgitating slogans and blindly attacking innocent rich people with specious yelling.

Incredibly respectable, thank you. But I feel your missing the point. Im not going for some sob story. My parents made poor decisions earlier in life and because of that they are working a lot to get by.

I am not bagging on anyone who was able to make a lot of money. Chances are they used the knowledge they have and were successful by the decision they made. But sitting on a large sum of money is not going to benefit our economy.

The problem I see is greed. No one needs 6 cars. every dime spend on those cars could possibly benefit our economy, even in the smallest way.

I have no anger towards anyone, the problem is far to large to blame one person. That is my belief.

If you want to buy a ferrari, go for it. Put a lot of gas into it, buy some shoes for it and get it detailed as many times as you can. Use your money here. Thats all I ask.

The occupy movement has ALOT of problems I agree with everyone on that, but you cannot deny the fact that there is a major problem in our country at the moment and something needs to be done.



p.s. sorry if something doesn't make sense, just had surgery and my mind is pretty lazy.

i agree with most of your post but...

regarding your statement about the 6 cars. how else would he spend the money to benefit the economy? he buys 6 cars. the car company has to pay wages to X number of employees to manufacture cars + plus wages of sales force and the engineers who created the cars. if he didn't buy the cars there wouldn't be as large a demand for the product and there would be less manufacturing jobs resulting in higher unemployment and more citizens without money.

Very few "1%" just sit on cash. they invest it in businesses which then grow and hire more people paying out more wages. Not to mention that many 1% understand that they have more money than they need and do support charities and even create there own. eg, under the same sun, Vancouvers vivian house, YWAM's home for hope is supported by those i would classify as the 1%.

Biggest misconception from the 99% is that greed is totally bad. Greed is an incentive for people to work harder and make more money (would you work hard if you knew the GOV would take a significant portion of it? Same goes for 99% they aren't working because they dont feel they make enough money). greed is also our biggest enemy because most people demand low prices and high wages.

using the CEO's example most people want ipods (lol at 99% filming interview with ipad). and we want them cheap. however due to unions and labour laws, labour costs in the USA are expensive (unionized labour). so we can either pay out big wages and sell expensive products, or move manufacturing somewhere cheaper and provide the ipods at a price everyone wants, at the expense of those looking for jobs.

Theres also the case with online businesses. Online businesses are not confined to geographic locations which means that they will move there HQ's to places with lower tax rates such a Malta removing potential tax revenue from USA or Canada (wherever your from). not only that but the wages will also be paid offshore because the cost of paying larger wages is offset by a lower tax rate.

so from my perspective a potential solution (i understand its easier said then done) is to reduce spending on military and other nonessential services (in canada i would say remove therapeutical massages ,among other things, from medicare) and lower profit taxes to make our country more globally competitive. Thus generating a greater foreign revenue and creating more local jobs.

Im not saying either side is 100% correct. there are some things that need to change. But there are plenty of things that the 99%'rs are arguing against that are helpful to them.

this is no way a comprehensive argument for the 1%'rs but i do think it breaks down a few of their arguments.

For the record i am in favour of welfare programs and help programs for the genuinely needy but i do have an issue with people slamming the 1% and then asking for handouts, seeing how thats where the money comes from.

Why does the average person support and feel more connected to the 1% than those who are of the same social class as them? Is it an issue of social alienation? Do they feel that in aligning with the ideologies of the super successful that it will account for their failings? Obviously this guy has vested interests in seeing no change in the economic structure of the US, but why do you people feel that way? It clearly is not working, and while the "99%" have done lots to alienate themselves from the population insofar as questioning the status quo which has been beaten into your minds your entire lives, why do you support a system that is, more and more, clearly being exposed as one that aims to exploit the general population in order to satisfy the over inflated needs of an overwhelmingly small minority?

I know words like "class" and "exploitation" automatically make people who cannot think critically cringe, however these are reasonable questions. While the American political system has done an excellent group at polarizing hundreds of millions of people based on two ideologies that in themselves encompass many different ideologies, this should be a bipartisan issue. It is sad that the population feels the need to address major issues under the comfort of their political ideologies, toeing a line they have no obligation to, even when the issue at hand certainly demands more.

Simply put, I value logic and reason above all else. I put it above other people's feelings, my class, my country, anything. To do so otherwise is purely idiotic, in my opinion.

And did you not watch the entire video? He states repeatedly that he agrees that people should protest and that things should change. His primary argument is that people are so grossly misinformed about basic U.S. economics that they actually think Wall Street is the cause of the problem.
