Confederate Flag

ok so my friend got in trouble for wearing a shirt with the confederate flag of it. the vp says it's just like wearing a swastika shirt. i for some reason cannot beleive this, from what i heare the confederate flag does not mean any hate or racism. but thats why i'm asking you guys, cause there are a few smart people here who should know the meaning of the flag.

seriously? it probably doesn't seem like wearing a swastika to you but to me it does. not that i would tell anybody not to wear either, but i would be wary of anyone who wore it. it is a symbol of oppression whether you want to act like it isn't or not, and let's be honest, if you say it's not, you're 99.9% likely to be white, from a slave state, and a racist (closet or not).

i never said hate, i'm pretty sure the only country that still "hates" you guys is North Korea, but it's not as though America is trying to make friends. it is and always will be one of the last countries to abolish slavery, and yeah, a lot of Americans still wave the confederate flag. you don't see too many Germans waving swastikas around, in fact that kind of shit will get you fucked up in Germany these days. America is still an oppressive nation, they just oppress different kinds of people these days.

We have douchebags around here that fly both the confederate and American flag on their trucks at the same time. The stupidity in that is overwhelming. Not to mention, we live in fucking Illinois.

ya the civil was largely about slavery, but more than that it was about states rights and establishing a different system of government that the south wanted more. If we had successfully won the civil war, slavery would have still been abolished long long ago.

Plus slavery was about to die out when that prick invented the cotton gin and upped the need for slaves. (eli whitney) (yankee)

ya i guess i know what you're talking about. I just don't see why some people care so much about the southern lifestyle. I'd be interested to know where the highest concentration of welfare recipients are located (ie: north vs south). Maybe i'm wrong, but I always thought people from the south believed in working hard and providing for their families; not in taking aid and stuff. I could be wrong.

the Confederate States of America were formed almost entirely because a bunch of shit heads wanted to keep slaves, and the people who ACTUALLY started this country saw the obvious flaw in that. the Confederate flag is an absolute disgrace to everything that a real American patriot stands for.

also, I live in a rural part of Connecticut and so many kids who have never even been to the south can be seen running around with their Confederate flags. it makes me laugh really hard, because they know nothing about what it means. if you're actually a racist and you fly the Confederate flag, fine. represent yourself as the scummy loser that you are. but if you fly a Confederate flag and try to tell me that it isn't a flag made based on racism, I will laugh in your face and lose any shred of respect I might have had for you.

well you are wrong. The north pretty much allows the south to live. Its not just welfare, the red states get the majority of federal money, and get about 1.20 back in taxes for every dollar they spend where most northern states get significantly less than that around .80 or .70 cents.

The south is fucking useless. I wish we would have just let them go so the rest of the country could prosper and they could just become a backwoods banana republic without us having to worry about them.

My moms and her family are from Louisiana and it is the most atrocious place I have ever been to.

so 1 out of the 7 founding fathers was somewhat anti-slavery, as long as it didn't make a difference during his lifetime. If he'd really been pro-abolition, he would have done something. He didn't.


But if you think the civil war was fought exclusively over slavery then you have very little grasp of American history.

Fuck you're ignorant... aside from not truly understanding the circumstances surrounding the formation of the Confederacy, you also have an extremely warped view of what the rebel flag represents nowadays. people in the south wave Confederate flags because they're proud to be southern, not because they're racist. Many people in the south have strong ties to the places they live because their families have been there for hundreds of years. I can personally trace my family back to the mid 17 hundreds. Right now you sound just as blind as any racist I've seen.
