So about 7 months ago I started working in a liquor store, and we sell the largest selection of beer in Calgary, about 900 varieties. I do drink a lot of them and want to try more but some are just soooo good that I keep drinking them. Not to mention all the wine I have to drink so I can tell customers what they are like too.

So I just want to know what your favourite beer(s) are, maybe why you like them and where they are from? Then I hope to see if I can get my hands on some of these goodies.

To prevent confusion I figure a bit of a format is best
Brewing company - Name of Beer - Location - any other notes

My top 3 are:
Rogue - Dead Guy Ale - Oregon - MMMMM, pure amber goodness in a bottle

Wells - Banana Bread Beer - Beer brewed with real banana's, if you have never had this try it!! Its like drinking banana bread, seriously delicious.

Stieglbrauerei - Stiegl Goldbrau - Austria - A highly drinkable beer thats just better than the standard labatt or molson and is my go to beer.

What does NS drink? But please no Labatt or Molson garbage.

Is my go to beer for summertime getting drunk and post skiing/surfing parking lot beers.

Although these days I've been drinking more and more imported beers and local stuff.

Not the best beer in the world, but it's really good for what you're buying. This is what I keep in my fridge on a daily basis.

if you want to find good beers pick out a beer or brewery that is available at the liquor store and look it up on ratebeer.com, alot more information there than on newschoolers

as long as people keep this opinion based and don't start trying to sound smart i'll stay civil.

However favorite go to beer - Two hearted ale brewed by bell's brewing company from Michigan.

Favorite beer I've ever had - double jack brewed by Firestone Walker out in California

Cameron's cream ale. It comes in 9 packs and is a little more expensive than your average beer. Overall great taste and is brewed right down the street from my college.

Unibrue (sp?)  out of Quebuec has some pretty ridiculously good (and affordable beers).

Especially like La Fin Du Monde.

Plus, their labels and names are all badass.

my homebrew organic ipa :)
and a banana flavored beer? banana flavors are usually considered flaws in the beer world. means your yeast fermented too warm.

A nearby bar has a happy hour special that I discovered not too long ago and its been my favorite draft I have had in a long time... its called the Dead Irishman....half Rogue Dead Guy and half Guiness.

Dogfish head 120 minute ipa. 18% abv and super smooth. Good luck finding it tho :)

Terrapin Brewing Co. - Hopsecutioner - Athens, GA - this beer is sooooo hoppy, its amazing, i guess it's considered an IPA but it is my fav beer i have found yet to date!  you can prob only get it in the southeast though

off flavors are kinda a funny thing in brewing. A single flavor in one beer style may be considered an off flavor but in another style it can be the flavor that makes that style. A hefeweizen is described as banana, cloves and bread.

Every year my friends and I split a case of Bells Hopslam and we cherish ever sip.

Favorite go-to beer when I have some cash to burn through would be southern tier's unearthy...oak aged if I can find it.

Arrogant Bastard - Stone Brewing - San Diego (Every beer Stone makes is fucking excellent)

Blue Moon Grand Cru - IDK, its a seasonal from Blue Moon

BJ's Grand Cru - Another seasonal from BJ's restaurant. Even better than the Blue Moon one.

Yates Solway Sunset - Yates Brewery - Westnewton, Cumbria, England

Boddingtons - Anhueser-Busch - Magor, South Wales (Traditionally from Manchester and Strangeways Brewery)

My favourite beer is Alexander keiths IPA
however a good easy going summer type beer is Great Northern Brewering Co. from queensland Australia if you've got that.

This made me laugh because the 7-11 across the street from my house sells it but I never buy it. IDK what it is about Firestone, never been a big fan. It is available in literally every liquor store where I live though. Its good beer but I prefer others in the price range.

Also that banana bread beer is awesome, I picked one up at a BevMo in Frisco not too long ago.

Anyone partial to any Ciders? I love me some Magners.

Some pubs in England won't sell Snakebite because of how ridiculous people get on it.

Ever had Diesel? Its a Snakebite with a shot of blackcurrant syrup. Pretty delicious and you can use the cheapest beer/cider you can find because you won't taste it anyway.

Anyone recommend good sour beers?

My friend just got me into drinking sours and he bought a couple bottles of some of the most delicious beer I've ever had at the biergarden but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me. It may have been Trappist beer.

I always was interested in tasting a snakebite with the syrup although I am leery of a sweet beer....especially since snakebites are already pretty sweet.

Oh its hardly beer anymore, it basically tastes like blackcurrant juice at that point. The whole point of it is pretty much to create the cheapest snakebite possible then cover the flavor with blackcurrant juice (which is delicious). Places in England sell them on student nights for $2 each and such. It is pretty delicious though.

Nah but my family is and I spend at least a couple weeks there every year, sometimes a month. I've been wanting to plan a summer trip going around to all the indoor ski areas on their freestyle nights.

2 reasons

1. I live in the midwest and the saying goes something like the grass is always greener on the other side.

2. It was my brother-in-law's bachelor party and lets say this beer was not at the beginning of the night. So who knows how it really tastes. I like to think it tasted like candy.

YES YES YES.

Every single Unibroue is delicious. Fin Du Monde is liquid gold. Blonde de Chambly is easily my favourite blonde beer. Those guys are incredible at making beer.

Its a good beer for sure, their Double Barrel Ale is extremely popular round these parts. A lot of local bars have it on tap even.

Oh and to Popsicle, that isn't even really that touristy. British people love fish and chips and beer. A lot of the fish and chip shops (especially in smaller villages) still serve it in a newspaper page as well.

Have you tried the Raftman? It was like the Blanche de Chambly but a tad darker. They have some really good beer too.
