Stupid rail question

this is dumb i just do what i see but why do skier slant front foot like diagnol on rail and keep back one flat? is it to slow down on rails?

It's called scissoring, it's to dig in kinda for the switch up or spinning out

ok thanks man so thats why when i try to spin off rail its hard cause i dont scizzor?

Also watch Andreas Hatveit's latest edit. There's a news page about it on the home page of NS right now. Perfect example of how you use scissoring to stop and control your rotations on the rail.

A good way to practise it is to use a regular box but jump on to the side and imagine the rest of the box isn't there. Ie. If you slide left foot forward like I do then just imagine the left-most 20% of the box is there and use that. Angle your leading ski against the edge of it to stop rotating.
