As far as i know it's a public park. Hostel room might be harder, think most people camp when they're there.

Its a fun public park for every one. You can camp on the foot of the mountain, but that's it, no hotels or anything similar. But the vibe in the camp is great thoug. Every one should spend a bit of ther summer there. But i dont think its as good as windels or other summer parks in the states.

Im 99% sure the whole park is public and I think you can rent a small cabin although camping is the most usual way of living there.

Too much misguidance in this thread not to answer it. Best time to go there is definitely the second half of june. Thats when the park is at its best and all the little shitkids are still in school so they haven't invaded the park yet. That's if you don't like waiting in line for the t-bar. And there are lots of places to stay other than camping. There's numerous cabins/houses/small camping "houses" available, but I would recommend getting on that well in advance because they tend to get booked early. But camping is your best bet, as long as the weather is nice. Bring a tent and set it up at the camp site just 10 minutes up the road from the "town centre". Loads of nice people, loads of beer and tons of fun, both on and off the glacier. You can also go swimming in the fjord after skiing, set up a nice BBQ and get your beef on. I've spent a week of my summer there the last 5-6 years, so take it from a guy who knows whats up.

Yeah man. You should go to fonna. Best place to be in the summer. As the guys said there are alot of options when it comes to where your could to stay. It depends if your going by yourself or with friends. Also i would strongly advise you to make the trip 2-3 weeks long. A sunny fonna is not the same as foggy, rainy fonna. Therefor you should make the stay as long as possible so that youre bound to have som good sunny days. The park is made by Emil fossheim and his crew. He is the guy that builds the field prod jumps in stranda and fonna and the park is so much fun. As the guys above said the last half of june would be nice. The only thing that might suck is that there are alot of alpine skiers there training around that time. But the camp dosent start until around the 20th i think. It all deepends on the amount of snow they have. If they have alot you might wanna consider a trip in the beginning of July. But the safest would be first half of June i think. Hope your going for it.

Thanks again for the help guys. So really thinking a few weeks in Fonna at the end of June could be great (where I ski in Chile has no park, so I need to get a fix before I go!). Has anyone got any links for how much a pass costs? I can just find camp prices online.

Actually, just found the main site, it's in Norwegian, but managed to work out the prices, and it's not actually that expensive, less than £200 a week. How much do guys spend whilst you are camping?

Im a norwegian guy and have been there alot of times so i kinda know abit about this.

first of all i would say that folgefonna is insane, you can go there in the middle of the summer, the park is verry good and i totaly agree that norwegian girls are hot. -sweedish even hotter. Anyway, prices for a cabin that houses 4 ppl (bunk beds, a verry smal kitchen. toilets are outside and shared with the rest of the camp) is 400norwegian kroners, about 70 USD/night. There are a small skate park and 8 trampolines that you can play around with. ppl loves beer and are verry open for new ppl. You will find alot of known skiiers there in the summer.

The camp is about a 15 min drive, sounds a bit long but its because the road is tarrifying. its verry small and winding. If you run out of it at any place you will be dead.  

And yes the park is public unless they are shooting video there...

Folgefonna is my favorite place to be in the whole world. Park is 100% public.
