DSLR Operation Noise

I recently picked up a 7D on Black Friday, when the camera is in video mode with image stabilization on there is a lot of camera operation noise. I can hear it from a couple feet away... I know that some amount of operation noise is normal, but is this amount normal? When IS is off there is almost no sounds coming from the camera. I am using the kit lens.
