Boot/Pack reccomendations?

I've got the La Sportiva Tango Trek Boot and I love it. Vibram sole and Gortex Material. Super durable and the foot board of the boot is perfectly molded to my foot. Pretty cheap, like $150-200. I've had them for 4-5 years and they are still in 9/10 condish. Definitely recommend if they feel good on your foot. Smart Wool socks are the shit if you dont like the scratchiness of normal wool.

Osprey makes pretty legit packs hiking packs. I'd get one if i got into hiking a bit more.

If youre looking for a more daypack type bag then check out Blackhawk tactical gear. Also check out the MOLLE packs they got. I've never tried them but ive seen some at the store and they feel pretty durable.

Badlands also makes pretty legit hunting style packs if youre into that style. I like them because they fill the niche between a traditional backpack and a fullsize bag, and they have integrated bow and rifle holders on them. I'll probably opt for one of these when i get enough cash.

If youre goin for an all out do everything bag, go with the Osprey. Theres a reason why pretty much the entire staff at philmont uses them and why they rent them out to scouts. Most comfortable and adjustable bag ive ever worn.

Honestly, hit up your local outdoor store if you have one. You need to try on everything before you get it, because it makes the difference on a long hike like that. There are tons of awesome packs and shoes out there, but they are best when they fit.

I don't know about PA but in the PNW gore-Tex is an absolute necessity for boots, other than that buy what fits you best and make sure when you try the boots on you wear the sock(s) you will wear when you're hiking. If you have the opportunity to walk around for 10 minutes or so in the boots before you buy them do it. Try and walk up and down slopes to make sure your feet don't slide And although its not as crucial as with ski boots, I would recommend that you go to an actual outdoor store (REI is great) and have an employee help you. There are boot fitters for hiking boots believe it or not.

as for specific brands of boots I would recommend Vasque and Salomon based on having owned outstanding boots made by both of those companies, although there are many other great brands

You absolutely do NOT want boots. No one hikes long distances in boots. Yes, PA is rocky. It is my least favorite state that I have hiked in. Still, you want trail runners. Look into Vasque and Salomon. As far as packs, you are absolutely right about internal frame packs. Make certain you get measured and fitted properly for a S, M, or L frame. Everyone has a different fit, and different packs work for different people. Try on as many as you can. Place like REI have weight bags that you can put in packs and try "hiking" around the store in. I personally like Gregory packs, and Osprey packs do not fit me at all. That is just me. For a 2-3 night trip I would recommend a 55l pack.
