Should students be paid for the grades?

Just came back from finishing my written final (coolstorybro)and the topic was to debate if students should be paid based on academic performance, but only to like the top 30% of students. I thought it was a good idea based a couple of reasons

-makes school feel like a job unlike just another chore
-promotes competition to achieve the best grades
-increase in secondary education population

idk those were just some I could remember had a lot more...but it's a Saturday morning so I'm still dead. So what do you guys think?

could just change it to all students who obtain say a 3.0 gpa will get paid and those who do better get paid even more?

It'd have to be done on a percentile thing. It'd cost a lot of money, what about people who are better in things like art and music rather than your typical learning off shit type of education?

I guess they could do some sort of competition within schools to say like people who overachieve in music, art, maths, english or best on the sports team gets prizes, but i spose that's kinda what scholarships are in the us?

scholarships are so far ahead in a students life, you would probably achieve a better result giving the students short term rewards like say $500-1000 for having B+ grades throughout the year. That's my opinion don't hate

sounds a little ridiculous.

i think it would be a better idea to take off money from your tuition. (the money would probably go to that anyways). but it sounds better than giving the students money.

Taxpayers don't want to pay for any more than they have to, taxes are plenty high as they are now and there is now room to "squeeze something like this in". Local governments and towns already spend the taxpayers money on stupid petty shit, adding something like this would be retarded.

Absolutely not, the professor who wrote this is a fucking idiot. Its called a scholarship which is provided by by someone other than the school. getting an education costs money

For some students, but it's one of those things like scholarships where they are so far ahead in the future kids really don't think about them, and in some cases their grades might slip due to lack of motivation and its hard to recover your grades if you have been doing badly for years (personal experience) inb4 more hate

Should people get payed for taking dumps? I think it would be a good investment from the governmnets standpoint to pay $10 to every person everytime ther take a dump.

I've heard of those before. they are called scholarships. they give students money to both give them incentive to work harder and afford their secondary education. there are so many ways to get money for a secondary education its ridiculous. paying students is just a waste of money because it will be spent on beer and not education. If you want money get a job.

you wont get paid for something unless someone else is making even more money.
Thats like asking for money to ski because you can do it well, you dont represent any companies just expect money because you are good. stupid thread.

***The canadian gov will be lowering tuition costs about 25% (back to the cost during the 1992 year) because back then 25% of students were working and now its 75%. they want students at uni to be worrying about school, not worrying about paying for school.
There's your money. (if tuition is $5000, you only pay $3750, thats a saving of $1250 because the gov. loves you all) and everyone gets it (except not at every university)

Absolutely not. Paying students for grades makes it an extrinsic rewards as opposed to an intrinsic one, and the satisfaction of doing well for the sake of feeling accomplished is lost. Plus how can the public school system afford this kind of program? The education system is already facing huge economic issues with the teachers unions and I know that portland public schools can't even afford to stay open until june every year.

i don't think so. this is not the proper way to prove the education system. even if higher secondary school enrollments were a result of this, to be perfectly pragmatic here, that's not a consequence we would necessarily want.

i personally think education would improve if teachers unions were disbanded or at least had less strength. teaching jobs have become so secure that there is little incentive for teachers to actually care about how much the students are actually learning

this, thats why scholarships exist. i think giving money to students is ridiculous unless it can only be used on their tuition / schooling. paying kids for their grades so they can save up for a car or something is total bullshit.
