Magic Lantern Thread

Hey M&A,

I have questions about Magic Lantern and I'm sure others do as well so I thought this may be a good idea for a thread!

Heres my question, once I disable AGC on ML for my mic, people say to "set your audio levels" but can someone explain this in more depth, like what should i set them too etc? Audios a whole new game. Thanks all help appreciated and Karma for good responses!

Peter theres no reason not to get it, the newest version is sooo fuckin easy to install and omg all the features its sooo goood

threads, installed it on my T2i after being a little hesitant, and i fucking love it! its crazy how many things it can do. my favorite is in movie mode when ur focusing, a small rectangle pops up and zooms in to help u get the perfect focus

i've got class 10 cards (a transcend and a PNY) and both of them stop recording because it hit its buffer, only with magic lantern installed. never before. really annoying.

8gb PNY and a 16 gb transcend. also i've had the transcend corrupt twice with ML installed, idk if it was the ml or just bad luck. had to warranty it both times.

hmm that sounds weird, my guess is just bad luck. Ive had ML for a while with no problems at all

same with me with my 16gb class 10 transcend. it doesnt do it all the time though but often enough that its annoying

if it happens again i might ask for either two eight gigs or my money back. does yours corrupt? thats what i meant. the stopped recording thing is annoying too.

You sure you didn't raise your bit rate? That can cause that real easily. I use ml no prob with a class 6 no name card once in a while and it works splendid.

yeah im wondering if maybe it thinks its a class 1 and doesnt read the 0, its worked ok with a class 4 before... better then a 10.

Yeh dude it sounds like your card. Try a low level format and reinstall ml. That has worked when ive had card problems before. Also like i said before, make sure that your bit rate isn't raised. A slow card won't be able to handle the higher bit rates that ml can give. Even with my class 10 sandisk extreme can buffer and stop after 3 sec when i run at the highest bit rate. You can also adjust when your camera stops playing because of the buffer in the ml menu.

probably the more well known brands like sandisk and lexar. transcend is a cheap asian made card

This, I only use sandisk now. I bought a class 10 32gb PNY and apparently the transfer rate isn't fast enough... Wasted my money like an idiot... Now I just use a 16gb and two 4gb sandisk class 10 cards.

My video clips no longer have audio recorded with them. Not sure if it is a direct result of ML, because i've recorded audio in the past since installing ML. anybody else had this happen?

Format the card then reinstall or format then install an older, more stable version if you have a beta version.

Or just check your audio settings and make sure it's set to internal or external audio depending on if you're using an external mic or not

Done all of that unfortunately.


It also doesn't record audio when I use a non-ML card.

thinking it's a camera issue, but not 100% sure

maybe dirt stuck in your mic input so the camera thinks an external mic is connected?

Is ML an easy transition from the stock software? I won't have a manual in my back pocket about ML so I'm worried about getting lost in the camera.

yeah it is. it just adds onto the stock software so you still have the same functionality but when you press the trash can it opens the ML menu. its really self explanatory, theres a little box with instructions for each thing
