Ski instructors or ski patrol who is worse??

What's the difference between a level 4 ski instructor and a level 1 snowboard instructor?

But seriously, if you're not a cunt to these guys, believe it or not but they may treat you with respect as well. Some of my best skiing buddies are instructors because no matter when I go to the hill, there's always someone there who doesn't have a lesson and wants to shred. As far as patrollers go, there's always going to be someone power tripping, just like that teacher you hated in high school. I spent a fair chunk of time lapping with patrol last year, and to be honest, they all rip and I learned a hell of a lot. Get to be friends with them and they'll take you into closed areas for freshies, show you their favorite smoke shacks, hell I've got shitfaced with so many trollers back in town after a day of pow. The truth is these guys don't make fuck all money wise and are out there for the love of doing it.

Bullshit. I ride park pretty much exclusively and I taught lessons. Never trained anyone to snake in the park. Also to tech park here, you need park certification (which mind you, is a joke) but they teach you how to respectfully use the park.

I NEVER let my kids snake the park, we would hit the kiddie boxes then peel off to the side and were always waiting our turn.

the ski patrol at my mountain are awesome but we have these people called mountain hosts and they are there to direct traffic and improve customer relations and they are complete dicks to all the locals. and ski down the park turning in front of every jump to make sure and i quote, "nobody is hitting the jump with too much speed straight on." isn't that the point of a jump. fucking idiots.

and btw im a freestyle coach at my mountain and park crew(subtle claim). best...jobs...ever

haha, I realize there are instructors here who don't do the stuff I said, I didnt mean to step on your toes.

But you obv wont see ski patrol doing anything like that. Just because YOU dont do it with YOUR kids, does not mean it doesn't happen. Ive directly reprimanded instructors for doing this and I guess get a dumb stare back "so, what are you saying?" This was primarily @ Steamboat. So stop crying like im talking about you or your mtn.

nah theyre all cock suckers at bristol. the ones at real mtns are cool tho because there are actually ways you can get seriously fucked skiing on a real mtn with avalanches and shit.

At any mountain I have never seen an instructor take his kids through a park. It is most likely against regulations there and it is a fucking dumb idea. If I did that at my mountain with my group of kids I would be fired.

If you creep the profiles of people hating on patrol, there seems to be a common theme. All are from the Midwest or Flat parts of the East.

Sorry to say. You're pro patrol is probably on the level or below that of volly's.

sometimes if im skiing at pns and the lines are long the instructors start to piss me off because they will cut in line. They abuse the privilege and cut when they dont have a student with them. we will wait in line forever and here comes a group of like 7 instructors and like one student with them and they just go right in front of you. then they look at you like you are the asshole when you call them out on it lol.

Most mountains have rules and regulations regarding park lessons, and if it isn't one or two students learning to slide a box, the instructor is probably breaking those rules.

If someone is leading a snake train or students off the side of rail lips, get their name, and report them to a supervisor.

depends on the mountain but ski patrol are usually pretty chill, i hate instructors who think theyre god just cuz they work at the hill and try to tell me what to do as well as instructors who take their little 6 yr old class through the park.

I've had mixed feelings towards both, but in the end it's almost always the skier being a dick on the hill which forces the instructors/patrol to intervene with your skiing.

All in all, don't act like a tool and you won't be bothered.

at my mountain the instructors are mostly high school/ college kids so theyre pretty chill but no one really says anything to them and they dont say anything to us. the ski patrol is also fine, theyre really helpful when kids get hurt and stuff. my only problem with ski patrol is they dont let kids ski in the trees and the hiking trails on the back side which are really sick on powder days, they try to get us to stay on the trail and some kids have got their pass pulled for skiing in the woods. it wouldnt be a big deal but my mountain is like 1000' vertical and has no steep trails. i am thankful for ski patrol though, they have helped me and my friends many times with injuries and such.


the only group i fucking hate are the mountain rangers. i dont know if its just wachusett, but they are seriously volunteer douchebags. yes, volunteers, they dont gte paid they just get a free pass if they work for a certain amount of hours. all they do is hide in the woods on the least crowded trails where going fast isnt a safety problem or anything and the people who are bombing it get their passes pulled. also there are like 50 of them on weeknights and probably 100 on weekends so theyre everywhere and if they see you messing around, even just with your crew, theyll snag your pass. they suck and i have never seen them help people or do anything productive for the mountain. /rant

the one ski instructor girl and i were skiing switch down the bottom of the one green they have open, and all of the instructors i have seen and talked to so far are super chill

now the stupid speed nazis that you speak of are mostly d bags, i have learned where they usually stand on the few runs they have open so far so i slow down where they are.


ski patrol was super cool to me, i was given the number of the manager of ops at key and i got that stupid fence they had up on spring dipper taken down /claim.



ski patrol can be your best friend if you get hurt, however the ski rangers or whatever they are called(usually where yellow jackets) are usually complete dicks.

nope, you are a retard who likes dick. I am a strong skiier outside the park and rarely spend an entire day in just the park. the patrollers at my mountain do not know what they are doing. I have a extremely large amount of respect for patrollers out west. they actually face danger and risk their lives for others. the ones at my hill in upstate ny that rarely ever gets more than a foot of snow in one day are all 60+ year old pricks that get bored and decide to yell at the kids at my mtn for no reason. so next time you try to call me out, how about you get your facts straight you ignorant fucking retard.

Whenever a ski instructor tells me to slow down, I'm come to a stop and ask if this is slow enough them.  I don't do this with ski patrol though because I've had friends who've had to take safety classes because they talked back to ski patrol.

ski patrol has picked up my broken ass somany times, i think we all owe them. and as a dumbass who got his level 2 instructors cause he knows he has to get a job at somepoint and would rather be on snow then running the grill at mcdicks. yea both groups can be pricks. but then agian arnt all weekend warriors.
