I ride in a place where they're there to save my life. The Patrol at Alta plays a huge role in the safety of the guests there.

I also ski at PC, where Patrol's main goal seems to be shouting at people for skiing switch, or going too fast.

As far as ski instructors, I've never had any run ins with them, so whatever.

If you wanna bash on some authority, pick someone better/more at fault.

Ski instructors teach the total noobs the basics of skiing so they dont crash into you and can get down the hill.
Ski patrol watches your back, and helps you out when you need it.

I know that where I ski (ski butternut-tiny hill in western MA) the majority of the instructors are former racers trying to make an extra buck and keep the trails free of complete noobs so they can rip when they're not teaching, and the ski patrol are all volunteers there to help you out when you fuck up.

I'm an instructor at Alta and we truly try to be as nice as possible, but if youre gonna give attitude expect it back. Sounds like everyday social interaction to me...

as a fellow rookie patroller, the patroller are really cool if you dont shit wrong. The instructor at my mountain are all pretty awesome and most of them smoke. So neither.

My mountain was supposed to have 2 features opened up , a 20 foot box and this Click for larger image(I dont know how you call this kind of rails
but they took both off onto the side of the trail , so when we kinda built a litlekiker on the side so we could hit them , ski patrol came and closed it , we argued a little and the guy was a total dick , and so we built a little kiker in an other trail , we we're getting tricks done and then ski patrol came and closed it , an olympian (alexandre bilodeau) who was training built a sick kiker like 15 foot flat

we got into a pretty intese argument and we went to his boss to file a complaint and the guy told us that peter (ski patrol) was kind of a crazy instruction follower ass , so we didnt really care and opened up the jump again and we could session it for the rest of the day.

so thats just my cool story bro ,

the instructors are awesome at keystone. and the patrol is actually pretty chill too. Its just the speed nazis that stand by the slow signs and take passes if you fly by them/ski switch that piss me off.

it seems like the volunteer, weekend warrior type patrollers are the worst. The real patrollers are for the most part pretty chill, and most of the instrutors iv met/know are ski bums that needed a job

Fuck this. My uncles a patrol team leader at Alpental, Washington, and I've tagged along with him on a few days. Let me just say that if you're skiing anywhere gnarly at all, the people patrolling there deserve your respect. They save peoples asses every day, and they could save yours one day.

i had problems at keystone i was just cruisin and a few snowboarders were on the same trail, then a whistle blew and it was an old ski patrol lady. She just saw me. I played it out like Im sorry, and yeah i was wrong. She was goin to take my pass away but since i wasnt a dick she just gave me a warning. If you are just chill and not a dick then they wont be dicks. like the saying you got to give respect to get respect

ive had experience working as both a instructor and a patroller and ski parttol is for when a dumbass like you tries to do something way out of there league and wrecks themsleves they are there to save your life you ungrateful fuck you have no idea how many dumbasses there are on the mountian and you dont have to go deal with them, another example is people skiing out of bounds, sure i do it sometimes, but i know what to do if something happens and chances theres a boundry for a damn good reason and instructors cant do shit all

Ive always had fine luck with ski patrol and most instructors. One thing that always erked me though was instructors bringing kids through the park who had no business teaching freestyle lessons and were just dangerous.

Don't Diss the Instructors or Patrolers.

They are there keeping you safe so you don't have to worry anytime your skiing in bounds.

They create a environment that is best for everyone while tailoring to everyones needs.

Some of the sickest people on the hill are the people that work there, always chill and would not be
"douchebags" unless the situation required it. Most likely you were acting like a dick or being a tool

In general, both groups in general are great, but its just the one asshole in the group.

like this one guy at my home mountain. some random kid and i are standing at the top of a rail waiting to drop to hit it, and we look up and some ski patroller is just totally flipping his shit, yelling and what not and looking down the hill. theres literally no one else in the park, so we realize he might be talking to us. we have no idea what were doing wrong so we just stand there. his buddy comes over the jump and they come skiing over to us. This guy is pissed. he tells us were in the landing of the jump and threatens to take both of our season passes away. i kid you not, we were 300 foot past the end of the landing and off to the right a good 25 feet. it would have been impossible for anyone to hit us. its THESE patrollers who suck

Easily instructors. Who else beings a train of kids snaking through the park side jumping every lip. Only ever had a prob with one patroller in my life. They are usually more helpful than a nuisance. Guess it just depends on which mtn.
