ANDOVER, Mass. -- An Andover High School basketball player that was involved in an alleged hazing incident is fighting to stay in school.
The boy is a senior in high school and the captain of the basketball team.
A source close to the investigation says there is a total of 9 players involved in the alleged hazing incident. Two of the boys are said to be victims, two perpetrators and then five others are said to have witnessed the event.
A source said the incident happened on the Stonehill College campus in Easton over the summer. The source said the hazing was sexual in nature and happened in a dorm room during an overnight basketball camp.
Allegedly, two boys were pressured into a contest. The loser was forced to eat a cookie with a bodily fluid on it.
The captain of the basketball team is among seven players that face possible suspension or expulsion.
The boy’s attorney attended a suspension hearing with his parents.
“He’s very upset obviously. I mean they are all paying a pretty price for this. I think all of them are devastated, all the kids that were involved and he’s devastated and he’s looking at obviously losing his senior year as captain on the basketball team,” said Arthur Broadhurst, the player’s attorney.
All the student athletes that were asked to speak said they had no comment.
The Easton Police Department said they would spend the next few weeks investigating the hazing allegations.
The player’s attorney, Arthur Broadhurst said he had no contact with the Easton Police.
If convicted of hazing the boys could do up to a year of prison and pay a $3,000 fine. For those who witnessed the hazing and did not say anything, they could face a $1,000 fine.
