60D +Audio Question! I am in a bind!

So long story short I am shooting a commercial tomorrow and my sound guy fell through. I have a boom mic available but no Zoom or other device to capture the audio. I bought a 'mic to xlr' adaptor that somebody told me I could run into my Canon 60D directly. I tried testing this out and the cord fits into the camera but I dont know what I need to do to switch the camera to the boom audio instead of the internal mic. I am starting to think my friend was wrong and this wont work, but it seems like it should. Does anyone have any experience doing something like this? If it does not work what would the purpose of the 'mic' input be on the 60D is my question.

I don't have a 60d so I'm not positive this is true but for my t2i whenever you plug in a mic it automatically uses the mic audio

When you plug the mic in, it should automatically start using it instead of the internal mic.
Install Magic Lantern and disable AGC & set your levels.

its a female xlr to 1/8 mic input i got at radioshack. I am thinking the issue may be that the senheisser boom mic runs of phantom power. Guessing the 60d may not support that. so i think i may be out of luck.

yeah just a cable wont work, you need a converter box. A XLR mix is a balanced mic, the typical 1/8" mic is not.

Ok thanks, guess the 10 dollar cable was too good to be true. I think i found another zoom to use but could you link me to the converter box i would need? just curious, thanks again, i appreciate it.
