And if you have not read their story its pretty awesome:
Some could say we're "high school sweet hearts"... nope. I don't think she knew I existed during high school until graduation night (high fives from the guys reading this). Some could say that we had our beautiful daughter after years of getting to know one another... wrong again. 18 & pregnant (Happy three-month anniversary).
That brings us to Tuesday, October 11, 2011, seven years later. Seven gratifying years of the natural ups and downs of a couple in their early 20's, sprinkle on some dirty diapers and beagle sized NYC rats in our wonderfully closet-sized first apartment out of college.
Sylvia, a 25 year old Poland native, and I, Stephen, a 25 year old Florida boy, decided that despite our Catholic back ground, we were going to hold off getting married after our daughter's birth, in order to get to know one another. We were both career driven individuals with plans of graduating college as Florida Gators and pursuing a life in New York. Clearly the chips were stacked against us but we knew it was a dream we weren't going to give up, and one we wanted to conquer as a family (thanks to the help of our pretty amazing parents).
Now as young professionals in the city, we've been grateful to have the opportunity to get to know each other more as a family, and mostly as a couple. By working together we were able to not only meet but exceed our personal and professional goals. We have unconditional support for one another in all of our ambitions and I believe this more than anything is what has helped us both land successful careers and stay together through the tough times that would drive most couples apart.
Today, our daughter is a new kindergartner, and sassy as a five year old girl can come.
I'm so happy to say that Sylvia and I have decided to take our next step forward in life. And while she'll likely kill me for entering this contest, I'd love nothing more than to exchange vows with her overlooking the city that helped us become the people we are today.
