Don't listen to the trolls they Afterbangs are a great ski if you want something that's playful and durable. The whole skate deck thing is pretty cool too. Also next time you have a gear elated question post it in Gear Talk.
meh afterbangs are alright depending on what your going to do. rails, boxes, and jibs in general they are beautiful. big air more your cup of tea the afterbangs are not your ski
The top sheet and base are not exposed wood but the sides are so yes after time they can become water logged. This can be prevented by putting a sealant on the sides. [Just what a guy at my shop told me (ref. to sealant)]
Afterbangs? More like afterbunks, got some last year because of all the hype, they ride like your typical line ski, super fun and poppy but after like 8 days of skiing park they delammed on me, after that I noticed people screwing the bases to the tips of the ski and stuff like that. Overall cool idea but they don't even come close to following up on their promise of producing a durable ski.
that's what i thought but as soon as the varnish wears/scraps off on the ski, any water in between layers creates separation (similar to a skateboard left out in the rain) friend of mine had to screw right through to keep them in one piece!
