Is anyone else on NS in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program at their High School? Just interested how many/if there are any others out there...
Another high school in my city has the program. And everyone i know thats in it says its a waste of time and just a ridiculous amount of work. What do you think about it?
Freshman year is pretty easy... I'm a Sophomore right now, and it's not necessarily that hard, but there is a fair amount of work to be done... I have heard that it gets tougher as it goes, but usually people drop out after Sophomore year or right after Junior year starts...
It's actually quite public. I got to Lakewood High School in Colorado and more than half of the school is standard public. IB is also public, anyone can apply...
haha from Pre-IB to IB1 (I think that only exists in sweden, since we start school one year later) 15 kids in my class of 45 students dropped out. And then we had our fair share of slackers in my year too, so at least 7 students had to re-do IB2 or do retakes.
Dat extended essay.
yeah I think it was totally worth it. A majority of the time during IB1 and the first term of IB2 I seriously just wanted to jump off a cliff, but when exam period started you were super prepared for all of it, and it felt awesome afterwards when you felt that you actually had managed to go through it! You'll do great, buddy :)
got kinda IB fucked though, surrounded by nerds for 3 years makes you a bit weird
IB psych kicked my ASS! seriously. I went in thinking it'd be all frued and jung and shit and instead it was all neurotransmitters and synapses and shit! WTF...
Math was fine, it was the only choice for Adv Calculus at my school so I pretty much had to take it in order to fulfill the math requirments
i does ib. it sucks sometimes but compared to the retarded people at my school its way better.
were so segreated, we have the AP/IB group and the normal kids. Then theres the regualr IB/AP kids who arent on hard drugs but are actually smart (thats me)
And to whoever said there isnt in canada, there is. In Lester B Pearson College in Victoria, BC.
All you guys who are between 15 and 18 should look up:
UNITED WORLD COLLEGES.
They are International schools where people go on scholarships. There are like 12 around the world and its hella fun and interesting. Not to mention colleges love kids from United World Colleges.
I graduated in 08 with full IB in Winnipeg, MB, Canada. I was able to transfer some high school IB courses into University credits. IB was a lot of work but it saved me half a semester of University, which could be around $10,000 at some places.
I have no idea about AP's. Im not american. But if you´re going to an UWC, classes will be very challenging and demanding, more than in a regular IB school I presume. But this is better for you because IB exams difficulty level is the same worldwide. ANyways, if you were selected to go im sure you are up for the challenge. Man,you are lucky, enjoy this experience, it will be unforgetable.
