Videos in ski gabber...curious

wondering what some red and green names have to say about this. ok? not ok? everyone does it from complete gapers to orange names (which sparked this thread)

i realized that i haven't really seen an admin or mod comment on the topic and i'm just wondering your guys' thought on it.

Mixed opinions.

On one hand, I want the Newschoolers forums to be about stuff in skiing that people want to talk about. If that is videos, then so be it.

On the other, the forums are a terrible place to watch videos if you ask me. Its great that it gets some exposure, but its not easy to come back to once it falls off the radar.

Solving this issue has been what we put so much work into the video section for. The idea is to give a place that is a really great spot to find and watch new videos. Its not finished yet, and definitely has not accomplished this goal. You're probably still better off to post in ski gabber to get lots of views.

Of course, even if we perfect that... would that mean we should ban videos from SG? I sort of think no... but I'm curious to hear what the rest of you think.

As well, we could look at the idea of doing something crazy like... if you have a video that is dope and you want to share it in the forums, you can click a button out of the gallery and sort of 'move' the discussion into the forums. The video would still stay in the gallery system for easy indexing... but the forum thread would be synced with the comments and everything kept in one place.

The last idea there is based around blending the forum experience with more content. It already is really heavy in content in the forums, but I'm not sure if this would go over the top.

Tell me what you guys think about vids in SG.

If there original and creative and just overall fun to watch, then go ahead and post em....but if its your run of the mill edit keep it in video

Hey chill out man, the odds of that being from 4chan are like 1%... And I realize i was being a hypocrite which is why I said sorry for the meme.


And MacMahooon- I think videos in SG are fine, as long as they are well edited and not really the "critique my edit" or "tips on editing" etc.. That should be in Media & Arts.

My latest thing has been trying to secretly perform "epic thread recovery" ninja moves. Try to jump into a completely derailed thread and put it back on track with a super insightful comment.

Concerning the topic, I enjoy seeing videos in ski gabber, I know everyone always has to yell VIDEO SECTION NOOB! but I rarely visit the video section, most of the good ones seem to end up in ski gabber one way or another anyways.

i have mixed feelings on it also... that's why i asked you guys ahaha.

on one hand, who's to say x edit is better than y edit and it deserves more views, exposure, and feedback by being posted into ski gabber? it's unfair to the law abiding members who DO post their videos where they belong.

someone's thought process might go as follows:
"Hey, look at all these views and feedback he's getting by posting his video in ski gabber. Well maybe I should do that, mine is lacking in that department." etc.
If everyone begins to think this, what's the point of the video section? Why even bother with it if all the cool edits will be posted into ski gabber?

on the other hand, some unknown people deserve the recognition for either their riding or edit making skills behind the lens. but where would you draw the line? how do you differentiate between a person who is good at skiing and someone who is good at skiing that deserves more recognition?

i'd say i'm mostly pro-video-section...

occupy ski gabber.

i always felt media and arts was less about the skiing in an edit/photo but a place to talk about editing techniques, videography/photography equipment, photto composition ,etc. so not really a place to post an edit if you want feedback on your riding but a great place if you want a critique of the editing.
on topic im not against the videos in ski gabber movement just i feel as it is, it works where if a fairly standard edit gets posted it get the usual "VIDEO SECTION!" response and the edits which are progressive or really stand out edits get the praise and attention they deserve.

see i'm ok with an edit being posted if somebody is asking help for how to do a trick or ways they can improve your riding, not promoting their edit. a lot of the times people post an edit for the latter reason, however.

i love the video section and use it 60% of the time im on NS.

but just a quick question!

when i would upload a vid on the "old video section" it would get almost 2000 views. yet when i upload one on the "new video section" it gets like 300 views, even tho its a better edit. this change occured as soon as the new one went up so its def not from the section dying.

so what is it from? and i think the lack of views on the video section leads to people posting edits in ski gabber!

posting videos in SG is an extremely slippery slope. The more kids see edits posted, the more they think its okay for them to post theirs. No one gives orange names any shit about posting videos because OMG THEYRE PROS, THEYRE SICK, THEY CAN DO ANYTHING THEY WANT!!! which is absolute bullshit. If you banned videos from SG people would be forced to watch them in the video section and post them in the video section. I know this will never happen, but like I've said before, something needs to happen. Even if the video section does turn out to be the best thing in the world, kids are still gonna post their videos in SG because they probably don't even know the video section exists because they've alway seen videos in the forums. All these kids are like "omg i would have never seen this video if it hadn't been posted!" and thats there own fucking fault for being lazy and not looking at the video section. When I joined NS, the video section was the heart of NS, its the only reason I join is so that I could watch videos. Now, the video section gets the least amount of traffic it has ever received. Either some stricter moderation of videos (maybe cut stupid to mediocre videos, keep only the best even though it shouldnt matter) or maybe just ban them all together. Either way, we need to get people to look for videos in the video section, not SG. I think that if all of the big names start posting in the video section then the younger kids will follow.

don't send everybody's edits over to m&a. its a nice, fairly tranquil form mostly unclogged with people posting edits. as eheath said, i think we need to find out how to get more flow to the video section.

And no dude, we already have that, its called the video section. Plus, if we had a forum for videos, kids would constantly be bumping their own videos...

videos in ski grabber are annoying, I usually skip those threads because I'm in the video section almost everytime I come on ns. What really pisses me off is when people post mainstream edits, for example someone posted Wednesdays with Wallisch in ski grabber. That pisses me the fuck off.

i say there should be a ban. the video section is on point now, NS should make use of that. just MAKE everyone go to the video section and they will.

a ban would be simple and easy to enforce, and would promote the new NS video engine
