Base Burn

Ive search bared and can't find anything. One of my skis has a bit of base burn i believe as they were just waxed and there is now a pasty spot on the base where it feels like there are little strands sticking out of the base. Just wondering if this is infact base burn and if I leave it will anything happen.

If it is white, like dry skin, then you need to get a base grind. If your base is dry, then you need to remove the dry layer of the base so the fresh material is exposed and then wax them. Regular waxing is how to prevent this.

before you get a base grind, try waxing a couple times, ive saved myself a lot of money doing this, more than likely it will work

how much does a base grind usually cost

typically dead base material won't really absorb wax, it needs to be ground off. A base grind usually costs around $15-20, but a full tune is around $30. Go for a full tune and be done with it.

Make friends with a guy at a local shop and your life will be changed. Luckily my friend works at one and it's easy as fuck. You get tunes, grinds, etc. all for free.

Base grinds will vary in price. Most places put a premium price on "stone" grinds that use real stone. TBH it doesnt really matter.

Get an iron, or use your moms, buy some wax and just wax once a week and your bases will be prime forever.

best way to take care of base burn is to brush with a copper/steel brush before waxing.
