Need some help with choosing a college

I know there is prolly a tread about this already but im too lazy to look. Im a senior in HS and are looking for colleges to apply to that have great places to ski. No terrible or small parks. I have a friend who is in Utah and he told me to go out there, but i was wondering for some other colleges to go to. Help me out please.

1. what do you want to major in
2. what kind of environment do you want to be in for 4 years
3. financial aid/tuition cost
4. reality/practicality

two hours away from whistler and baker
45 minutes to 3 local mountains with night skiing
ranked #22 in the world
cheaper than almost anywhere you would go out of state

it would be dope to have another pennsylvanian here!

naw skiing is just to do when i have free time, school is important to me. I applied to schools around me but im not sure if i want to stay home or go out of state.

this. you can ski in tons of places. i go to school in delaware and i can ski PA if I want. it doesn't need to be utah or colroado. that'd be nice but consider how big a of a decision this is.

Saint Michaels and UVM have the awesome shred cultures, and we ski out of stowe. Burlington is also a sweet place to go to school. great options for a skier who wants to stay east coast

But seriously.  Academics is way more important than skiing. You can ski your whole life but you only have one chance for an education.

It's kind of late to start searching for colleges.  Has your guidance meet with you at all? Everyone I know is finishing their apps now are has already sent their apps a couple months ago (like me)
You need to factor in your test scores, GPA, extracurricular activities, etc.

Utah is not a bad college by any means man. Its been compared to CU-Boulder and boulder is now considered a public ivy.....

do what you want but realize you can ski a fucking shit ton while going to school and fulfilling education too man. it's not one or the other.

No in all seriousness I do personally plan on going to college for photography, but really I would be incredibly happy just skiing everyday and ski bumming for the rest of my life.

Well I was not aware that it was not his first language either. I was referring to the way he worded the sentence though, because it was also written in a way someone might write after they had a few drinks, and I did see his drawing thread. That makes sense though if it's not your first language, I didn't mean anything mean by it.

I moved from Moscow, PA five years ago to attend the U of U and have not regretted my decision in the least.  The proximity of the mountains to the campus is unbeatable.

Well first off you are basing the criteria of an education off of acceptance rates, and let me remind you that acceptance rates for ivys are INCREDIBLY discriminated. Public universities have to have a higher acceptance rate the 6%, otherwise they'd be broke and shut down. Second off, Boulder has been claimed as a public ivy since it has some of the top 10 programs in the nation for engineering, business, architecture, and public policy. Those others frequently being in the top 10 just so happen to be ivys (harvard, brown, yale, WTFE).

Now, Utah has had programs in the top 20 such as specific medical programs (like podiatry, nutrition, really specific areas of study), environmental sciences, and computer sciences. The guys who essentially created PIXAR went to the U (look it up its tight).

all im saying is Utah has been compared to Boulder and Boulder has been ranked with Ivy leagues so yes, even though it has an 87% acceptance rate because NOBODY BESIDES SKIERS AND RESIDENTS apply, it still is a great school for your money that should not be discredited. Your getting the same education in some programs that ivy league schools are giving for $50,000 more and skiing is only 30 minutes away.

but unless you really dont plan on skiing what-so-ever and school is your only goal, then try and find somewhere else but if you NEED and LIVE for skiing and want a great education, then the U ain't half bad.

besides, I feel like half of NS is in SLC anyways.

i go to lyndon. there isn't a lot to do until skiing starts. that being said there are tons of wicked chill people, some really good skiers, lots of parties, the academics are actually quite good (one of the top meteorology and new media/television programs in the country, used to be one of the best business schools in new england), there is a very good music program, lots of really good bands on campus. its 5 minutes from Burke and 40 from Jay Peak and one hour to smugglers notch. only an hour and a half to burlington. theres a brand new on campus skate park. its a small school full of laid-back chill people. i recommend this school to all of my friends

somewhat off topic, i'm having trouble deciding on a college and just looking for some experience. is it better to have a college with a better name or a college that is better in your specific major? for example: binghamton university is a more prestigious university but the university of buffalo has a considerably better engineering program (intended major). which would be a better choice?
