Starting Filming. Question

So, for a while i've wanted to start filming and start doing some photography. i can edit well, and have had some experience filming. ive looked for cameras a long time and i've narrowed my options down to a canon t2i, and a Gopro. I was wondering if its a good idea to buy a nice t2i when i'm just starting filming. any advice for beginning serious filming? thanks

well gopro and t2i are entirely different cameras. hdslr's may be hard to jump right into if you have no camera experience. a gopro is going to be super simple just point and shoot, but if you ever wanna make anything other than action sports vids or anything with sound, you're gonna want something more. what do you want to film and what kind of experience do you have already?
