I simply find it interesting that one can actually be arrested for something like this. I like it when people speak their actual beliefs, even if they are racist or idiotic. People all over the world can now make an accurate judgment on this lady; a racist, hate-filled, terrible mother. I still don't see how that warrants her being arrested.

Do you really think that her being arrested is going to change her beliefs? Or that it changes the way her "victims" feel? Maybe I can't speak on this topic since I am not a minority, but to me this sort of situation presents an opportunity to educate the ignorant (or at the very least, know that you want nothing to do with this person) and move on with your day.

Depends on where you're from. Some Canadians speak French, say oot, or sound no different than I. Some Americans from Boston have such thick accents I have trouble understanding them. It's no different.

Well in the US she would have been arrested for assault and freedom of speech would have nothing to do with it. She's doing her best to incite lawlessness, aka start a fight or get herself shot.

Assault? Really? In America it would have everything to do with free speech. Members of the KKK or Black Panthers are aloud to parade down the street without fear of being arrested.

I am simply making an observation that our society has become so sensitive that now a person can't even say things that may be upsetting to others, without the fear of being arrested. Where is the cutoff for what is ok and what is not.

I in no way condone what she was saying, but from what I could understand from the video, I don't think she ever threatened violence or anything of that nature.

I just believe in letting people express their beliefs, no matter what. I would much rather know how people honestly feel than have them pretend to be something they are not. Just my 2 cents.

people should be punished for that kind of closed minded ignorance. there's a difference between offering nothing to society, and speaking your mind. she clearly, has no mind of value to contribute. if anyone's soft, it's people worried about their rights to speak bullshit.

I agree. America's supposed to be the land of the free, and yet it's the most sue-happy, stingy country in the world when it comes to what people say, and being politically correct.
To jenifa, why should she be punished? Is she stupid? ya, but hell, she's only hurting herself by being like that. While other people may initially get offended, it is only her who is hurting herself. People know she's a bigot now. Arresting her won't change her beliefs. If anything she'll just think it was stupid how she could get punished for holding the sound beliefs she thinks she holds. My hope is that people like that get a very appropriate treatment from karma.

what's ignorant? not respecting bigots and racists and their opinions, or their right to voice it? then everyone who's pro human rights is a fucking ignorant p.o.s. this just in; oppression and hate speech is cool, and apparently acceptable.

as far as i'm concerned, if you argue that not punishing someone for this type of behavior is ok, then you're opening to the possibility of living without punishment whatsoever. anarchy for all, since respecting others isn't within your constitutional rights, because free speech is top dog, not civility. you kids make me laugh.

Haha-neither trolling nor twelve. I still fail to see how this is an arrestable offense. Should it be punished, maybe in a societal sense, as in she has basically just brandished herself with a scarlet letter, but I don't believe it warrants legal action.

shit like this makes whole segments of the population develop irreversible inferiority complexes. And you can't say "well they need thicker skin". I know you're probably a young, middle-class, straight, white male, and you can't for the life of you imagine what it's like to be a minority, but think about it for a minute. When you see shit like this on the news, even if it's sub-conscience, it creates this "us and them" mentality that undermines the foundational qualities of a successful, functional society; unity, brotherhood, loving other people as people, etc.
Seriously, I am a minority; I am poor, I am bisexual, I am an anarchist. These distinctions pale next to deep-set racial hatred. The hate I experience can never be as intense as that shown in the OP post. I cannot begin to imagine how these people must feel. 

You can keep your "freedom of speech" if it means derailing our unity as human beings.

Bit of a stretch with the whole anarchy rant. I originally stated that I simply found it interesting that she could actually be arrested for something of this nature, strictly talking about the legal side of things. I get it, she infringed upon the other peoples' rights to ride that train without being harassed, I am not arguing that. But where does that sort of belief end? When I said karma I meant in a more elegant sort of way, like her getting fucked over in some way because of her racist beliefs, and not just a straight up legal punishment. In this day and age, there are more people who are non-racist than than are racist. In this instant, you saw that SHE was the minority, the only one who seemed to think only english people should be on that train. People started telling her to shut the fuck up because she was being a retard, and as has been pointed out, she probably would have been physically reprimanded in some way had there not been a kid on her lap. I do not see a need for legal intervention. I think society and the people who are a part of it should create a civil world, not law.

Well, I agree that people shouldn't be arrested for outbursts like that; the punishment largely comes from the stigma of being an asshole. As far as bullying and hate speech, those should be arrestable offenses, as they are, without a doubt, a large engine behind many suicides in minority communities.
I think moreover we should focus on education. If our school systems were more functional (I'm talking about the US here, but I'm pretty sure that England's school systems aren't without flaw), more could be done to challenge racist and bigoted beliefs. Additionally, community diversity quotas could be of aid. However, all of this assumes that the industrial-technological system as it stands will continue to progress; this is most likely a false assumption. Because a large-scale breakdown is imminent, small autonomous communities will develop quickly, and there will be no other option than to work together and think ourselves through our ethnocentric beliefs. Without the ability to work together, to accept one another, and to understand one another, there is no chance of survival in the post-coercion-based-hierarchy era. There will, without a doubt, be a long, painful transitional period where these bigoted ideologies are key drivers in a chaotic and seemingly eternally warring race. There will be blood. But only after we tackle these problems will the chaos end.

You have to look at the big picture. Solving problems like these symptomatically is ineffective. You can write laws all day long, make ad campaigns, but as long as we live in a society based on (largely ethnocentric) hierarchy and coercion, greed and consumption, there is literally no chance of hope as far as dissolving ethnic, sexual, and creed-based issues.
