Can someone explain water ramps?

i live in michigan so im in teh same situation. but i do know that they aearate the water so it breaks the surface tension so it doesnt hurt when you land. wouldnt water wreck your boot liners though?

Does the water wreck your boot lineres when the snow melts? Anyways you usually bring shitty old boots anyways. To answer the question of why it doesn't hurt is simple. Would you jump off a 30 foot cliff onto hard snow? probably not. And would you jump off a 30 foot cliff into water? lots of people do, water is a much more fogiving surface to land in then what many people have the oppurtunity to ski on, so basically it allows them to get the feel for a trick before they go out and try it on snow that way they have the confidence to do it and also know how to throw it. Also to answer your question on the whole switch thing, some places allow it but I'm not sure about all places. I know Placid allows you to hit them switch and I'm thinkign Park City would too.

Can someone give a quick synopsis of what the deal is with ramps? I don't have the opportunities as some of you since a)I have no money and b)I currently live in WI and then moving to Summit CO where there are no ramps. Are they specifically for skiing jumps? Where would you find them? Can you hit them switch? How do you not break your legs and arms and face when hitting the water? Some of these videos have kids flying like 30 feet up, seems like that would hurt like shit whether you had a suit on or not.

no... your parents dont 'rent' the place for the afternoon, there are programs u can enroll in where coaches teach u stuff off the ramps... depending on how long and how hardcore u are it can be anywhere from $60-$2300 there is an all summer freeriding one with Austin Ramaly and Craig Coker as coaches in PC i think its $800 from May till October... u can also go for like 2 weeks for less...

no it doenst ruin your boot liner... dude isnt snow water? well when u ski your liner gets wet, its the same thing, altho i would reccomend when your done, take your liner out so it dries quicker and doesnt warp your liner since the water soaks up more than snow does

I went a high north a few times and i loved it, Atkinson was getting so pissed cause i broke a both skis then the bindings. mainly cause Abma sucks at doing the bubbles so u land pretty hard, soooo much fun tho

Keystone is supposed to be building them, but I have my doubts as to if and when. I have been up to Steamboat and they have a really sick setup. This kid Charlie Macarthur and his family had a lot to do with building them and then letting all the kids use them (watch out for him next year). They have a 16 foot wide freeride jump, a mougul jump, a freestyle ramp, and a cheese wedge. Kids hit the freeride jump switch and throw cab 10s and shit. The water definately does not feel amazing if you land on your side or back b/c it is a lake and there are no bubbles to break your fall. I took quite a beating, but it nothing you can't shake off between jumps. Very very fun though.

there are some in le relais quebec, park city, and Lake placid NY, you can hit them switch, they are fun as hell, and they have compressed air tubes at the bottom of the pool which emit bubbles so u dont break yourself, however landing right on face (which ihave done on many occations) cant hurt a bit however nothing serious.
