I don't know where you're from but I'm from mississippi. We have something called swamps and every once in a while you have to venture into these swamps (a little ways) and find stray cattle. On my families farm we have a small Datsun pickup with super swamper tires and a moderate lift kit (probably like 6 to 8 inches if memory serves). It's not the vehicle to drive around town as a showboater but it is the one that is practical for the fact it gets around the farm without any problems and the lift kit and tires actually serve a purpose. Hell we have a set of studded tires for it on the case that there's an ice storm that rolls through. It was my dad's truck when he was in high school and has been kept in the family 30+ years. It replaced the old 67 bronco that was used for getting around the farm when it finally decided to quit 16 years ago.
The rednecks that most of you refer to (op) are more than likely urban cowboys. When I'm up north I do not where my cowboy boots, I wear tennis shoes casually and hunting/outdoor boots when the time is needed. I wear shit kickers when it comes to being on the ranch or whenever I need to work at farms and or ranches up north.
Whenever I wanted to go into town the only vehicle available to me at the time was usually the work truck with the lift kit and super swamper tires and it usually needed gas at the time which made it convenient . There is a huge difference between the people who have lifted trucks out of neccesity and those who have them because they think it's cool. It is a major difference between getting around the farm and having a big lifted vehicle so you go just go off-roading.
You also have to take towing of trailers into effect. If somebody drives a Cummings (deisial in general) or dually around just because go ahead and knock on them all you want, but if you only have x amount of vehicles and you have a large family some of them have to be put into use to get to and from.
My main point is that there is a difference between people who actually raise cattle, crops, pigs, chicken, etc, and those who are the ones who just have lifted trucks that brag about being redneck. Real farmers, ranchers, etc, will not brag about the fact (in fact they're usually quite modest and keep to themselves) unless they are the rodeo folk.
Rodeo riders see themselves like your football or whatever the fuck sport it is people you know or are. It is a sport, they will brag about it and bring it up quite a bit. They are probably the ones that drive lifted trucks wear their cowboy hats and boots and talk up whatever they want. They are some of the most ballsy bad-ass people that will walk the earth. Not a whole lot of people have it in their mind they can ride on the back of a 1/2 ton bull and get away with it scott free. it's a fools odds but yet these people have the nerve to try it multiple times in a day. They are not only ballsy but they are also fearless and most of all (most likely) very stupid. They drive lifted trucks and flaunt their shit because that is their livelihood. The truck is probably used to ride the trailer from arena to arena because more than likely they have a few horses, cattle, pigs, etc. they ride (just the horses) or bring to competitions. These people have the right to claim full redneck but usually don't because first and foremost they are riders, and that is the most important part to them.
Again to my main point. There are many key differences that separate people who actually make a livelihood off of what you consider "redneck" and the people who are actually redneck themselves. I could go on a lot more about this but I don't particularly feel like it.
(sparknotes)
Do not confuse yourself with the actual people who live that way due to neccisity as compared to the ones who do it out of trend.
