a 2wd first gen set up and tuned right can pull over 25 mpg, close to 30. 4x4 will get 15-20

my BOMBED 1st gen gets 20 on the highway turning 35s

My 24v pushing 35 gets about 23-24 on highway with a 4 inch straitpipe. It's amazing how good of fuel mileage thosestrait 6s can get!

work truck, 2003 dodge 2500 H.O. 6 spd manual cummins 108,00 miles

daily driver, 99 dodge dakota sport , 4x4, 5.2 v8, 5 speed manual, 31x10 50 maxis bighorn studs, 103,000 miles. cummins pretty much stock, except for cat delete banks exhaust, banks elbow, intake, 2 inch leveling kit for summer tires etc.

dakota for now just has KNN cold air , and dual flow-master 40 series exhaust, 52mm throttle body spacer. all my mods just for mileage reasons, the extra power just a lil bonus for me, im all about gas mileage when you own two trucks ha, every penny helps ha. good thread, some nice rides out there is the NS community.

haha stay far away from that piexe of shit. $4k for a RWD 1991 chevy 1500 is absurd. Pick up an older 4x4 toyota pickup (1991 to 1995ish, pre-tacoma) for less than that and it will run forever.

Almost all done just a couple more things to finish up. This shop trip involved turbo and related airflow, pump tuning and parts, upgraded power steering/brakes, head studs a head rebuild and some port and polish with a new head gasket.

The 2wd claim i believe. I for some reason assumed we were talking 4x4s. Im not trying to be a dick ots just that diesels have gotten so popular lately and a lot of people are saying so much crazy shit.

But on a side note you see that dodge is now building a halfton diesel? Step in theright direction i think

Anybody whos sayin they get 25 mpg+ in a 4x4 is lying, or stupid. one or the other.

I'll post a couple trucks i know personally and share their average mpg.

Mine: gets bout 16-17 mpg mixed town and highway 90 4x4 auto cummins

My dads: Gets about 14, no matter what 99 4x4 5 speed cummins

97 4x4 automatic cummins, 15 mpg tops, usually worse

I've vowed one day to put a 4bt cummins in my 71 Bronco. Costs too much atm but in the future it is happening! Wouldn't mind getting 20+ mpg in a Bronco instead of the 12-14 i'm going to get if im lucky with the 302...

Got the paint finished though! Ready for the roll cage and interior to start being done as well as the wiring. Also need to drop the T-case and take it apart and cut the 2 shift rods apart for the twin sticks to be independent.

Also, don't worry about the tires and rims. I have a set of 35x12.50R17's in the shed ready to be put on when they won't get beat to hell and have a chance of getting chipped or scuffed before they hit the trails!

Those are 33x9.50's I belive. Pizza Cutters is what I call them!

I know! I just dont have the $7-8k+ to get one and rebuild it. It requires cutting the crossmember ad lowering/creating new motor mounta for it. Juat trying to get this thing done ad its starting to get into the finishing stages now. Interior, brakes, wiring, getting motor running well (its rebuilt but hasnt been ran yet), and the top still needs to be painted.

I am jealous of that bronco you done a really good job with it. 302s suck gas tho. Ive grown fond of cookie cutters over the years, seems around here it helps to sink down and dig in to the harder stuff

Nope. You probably think it starts easier in the cold and the IP's last longer too.
The VE pumped Cummins trucks get the best real world mileage other than a common rail, but a 500 dollar set of sticks is a lot cheaper than 2 grand, can buy a lot of diesel with that haha

the 5.9 can. its possible. not with huge tires, a tuner, a load, no idling, stoping all highway. oh and tow mirrors down, less wind resistance!

when I first got my truck I saw 27....once. that was brand new injectors and fuel filter so it would probably go down a bit with wear.

sicne then I have added 35's, a tuner, I rarely drive over 45 mph and have traffic lights everywhere. add that with winter and winter fuel and im lucky if I see 12-13 now.


but it doesnt really matter, I didnt buy this truck to get good MPG's. I bought it to have fun and I sure do!

Any suggestions for wheels for my 4runner? I want to get rid of my peeling dinky 15" and get something else, but most wheels I've found look terrible.

I think the biggest tire I can fit with out a lift is a 265, and I really like the Toyo Open Country MTs on my dads F350, and the only size that fits my runners a 265/75R16

Could just go with the typical 15-17" soft 8/rock crawler seriers/ procomp alot of people run. Lots of backspacing options and they are like $50-90 a rim
