Portable HDD recommendations?

Just had a Toshiba 1TB Fail on me after barely any use, I dont recommend toshiba anymore haha. Anyways what do you all use that you have found to be reliable and affordable? My film Proffessors recommend the Lacie Tough series, But I really dont have 200+ dollars for a 1tb right now. Any help would be much appreciated as I am pulling the trigger on one tomorrow.

I use a Lacie rugged and I absolutely love mine! It works amazingly and would recommend it!

Yeah i actually meant Rugged instead of Tuff. Its weird. I didnt see at first. I guess the firewire one is 200+ is the only one i was seeing, now I see that the usb is only like 100 so i may grab that.

Well then I would recommend the firewire because it will make all the transferring so much faster!

Yeah for sure I would like to have that! but the unfortunate thing is i dont have the budget to spend 200 on the Lacie firewire one right now and need a cheaper alternative. Anyone know of any firewire drives that will get the job done for less? If not I will make due with a USB one for now.

I use a seagate go flex. Mine is a desk model, but i think they make portable ones as well. Cool thing is you can swap base plates so you can use firewire, usb 2.0/3.0 and i think they are making or have made one for thunderbolt

Depends I've used quite a few.

I am currently using a Lacie Rugged and couldn't be happier. Fast with the Firewire and reliable.

You can also buy a firewire HD enclosure and just buy a 2.5" laptop HD and run it that way. Depends what you need it for. I run LR off of my HD and don't have any speed issues...

Lacie rugged's are money for portable stuff.  I've had alot of Lacie desk models overheat.  I prefer the G-Tech raid drives.  I have the 6TB model.

I have 2 500gb ruggeds. Ones about 9 months old, ones only a few months old. But both have treated me well so far.

Great choice, i love my 1tb rugged. Considering getting a 2tb esata rugged as my next drive.

what were the drives that you and bentley had fail after like a day?

I have never had a drive fail, somehow (knock on wood). Bentley had some troubles with a lacie rugged, but everyone has troubles with all HDs so hard to judge what is best.

oh word. i just remember bentley kinda ranting to me about them, i think he's had two of them fail within a week each or something like that.

i use the seagate free agent goflex pro's and theyre definitely solid, nothing but good things so far knock on wood
