at what point do you have to choose? I just started playing, just rolled into white run and told them i'm not picking sides. I have a feeling though that it would be more beneficial to side with the imperials.

Nobody forces you to do the quest. I sided with the imperials simply because being a non-nord and siding with the storm cloaks didn't make much sense

going to side with the imperials this play though I think. Not sure who is the true good or bad side, but I'm trying to play a good guy this time round and it smells like racism and possibly a genocide when I talk to the storm cloaks.
next play though when I'm a BAMF, I won't be so kind.

probably not that different. In the storm cloaks you attack forts and cities and whatnot so I'm guessing on the Imperials you defend the cities and whatnot

I joined storm cloaks but it turns out Ulfric is a puppet for the Thalmor, so I am having a little bit of regret. But I may just kill him.
