ARMADA Halo or Alpha 1

i'm looking for a new ski for this year im deciding between the Halo or Alpha 1's im ridding all day park in the east coast and i do equal jumps and rails any suggestions? will give +++++++++ for any replies

alphas, I'd rather have them for ice. Cause that's all the EC is right, a block of ice?

Do you wax your own skis though? If not, you might want to take a look at something without the racebase, as they need to be frequently waxed.

I love my Halos. They're barely softer than the Alpha 1s and you don't have to wax them constantly.

halos are more for butters and alphas are stiffer and faster for bigger jumps so buy the ones that match your style

nope. the alphas have a sintered race base. id go for alphas, because especially in spring slush slow skis are annoying as shit.

Go for the t halls bro, everyone seems to love them, whereas the halos are defintely pretty spotty.

Go for the alpha 1 .... I ski the ec with alphas same as my brother therr sick....the halo and alpha are almost exactly the same

i might be wrong here but i'm pretty sure the S7 base armada use on Halos/AR7s/THalls is also sintered its just a slightly slower base that needs waxing less often?

Id say that the base you are talking about is the one they use on the JJs which is called the 50/50 Base, but I might be wrong. Anyways, I find the base of my JJs faster than the one on my t-halls but they are still a bit slower than a race base.

As I understand...the alpha 1 is the same ski as the halo (same dims) but for a faster base and stiffer flex profile.

If you're riding buttery lines through the park, hitting rails, etc. Get the halo

If you're hitting bigger tables and need more high-speed stability...get the alphas

halos they seem like a better park ski or u could go with the t-halls i have them and they ride great on ice

I would go for the t_halls the bases on both are sintered its just a matter of if you want to wax them every day and if you want to speand more. They are about the same stifness bt the alphas are rockered so more buttery on rails. I have ar7s and love that my frieds get stuck in the slush wile i glide right through.

i skid my alpha 1s for the first time yesterday and they are amazing. my friend had halos he loved them too. the shape is so amazing. so poppy.bases are FAST

if you've stopped growing then 176. If still young and growing 182.

If you just buy new skis each ski season then just get 176

Hey guys.
I'm in the situation of buying either a pair of halos or alphas.
I've ridden the alpha 1 from the 09/10 season for 2 seasons now (size 182), but they are dead :(

Thing is. I dont have that much money and the only alphas from last year I can find in europe is 176. But I can find halos in 182. I ski mostly park, but I like the speed from the alphas aswell.

I'm 5'10. So do you think I shud go with alphas 176 or halos 182?

I'm 5'9 (but skinny) I'm on 176 Halos so its not like 176 is tiny for you. But if you like the length of 182s then I'd just go for the Halos, they are slightly softer and a little slower but I'm willing to bet it doesn't make all that much difference. Just wax them a lot.

halo's suck a dick. spend the extra 50 bucks and get the alpha 1's. faster base, more durable ski. cant lose!

I am not trying to speak for anyone else but I actually have the Halos and Alpha 1's. No I haven't just demoed both or looked on the Armada website to see what the difference is. The difference is very minimal, the stiffness of the Halos new is the same as my Alpha 1's after 20 days. As to the Thalls I would not compare them to an elf shoe ski, I skied them for half a year after skiing AR7s but sold them to get my alphas. They are both easy to butter, because the thalls are soft, but the rocker and elf shoe allows you to roll the tips really easily. As to the bases, I also have the ARG and JJ which have a mix of the race base(Alpha 1 and pipe cleaner) and s7 base(AR7,Thalls, and Halo). They say you need to wax the Alpha 1 base a ton but I found that not to be the trueth, if you dont wax them they ride as fast as the s7 base, but if you actually wax them then they are like rockets, I have never skied a ski even close to as fast. Also I currently am in Utah in my first year of college, but I am from Vermont. I skied/worked at sugarbush, and understand your concern to be able to edge on ice. I think the alphas are the best for ice because they are stiffer to hold up to hard landing and railing groomers, but the thalls can wash out if your dont put the down straight to the bindings. The halo's bases however are more durable than the aplhas bases but I found all armada park skis to be more durable than other brands.

no the alpha is stiffer and has a race base and the halo is sofrer and a little stronger base

i would go wit the alpha for the jumps and ice i too live on the east

P.S. if u go alpha keep the base waxed

reccomended is -2.5cm which is actually the dead center of the running length of the ski since there is slightly more rise in the noses than the tails

where you choose to mount them will also change what lenth of ski you will want. With the early rise, you will have less ski in front of you if you mount them dead center. a longer ski will help outside the park in this case, correct me if Im wrong.

plenty of people do mount em centre. I'm mounting mine at true.

I know its going to affect the carving performance but its never bothered me before and I like having my park ski centred. I'll be skiing 80% park on mine so why not.

Mounting Halos dead center is like mounting a traditional ski 2.5cm in front of true center because of the early rise. Naturally it will be a little awkward and won't carve or ski as well since you'll have more effective tail than nose on the ski.

You will gain a lower/ little more balanced swing weight from going center though. This advantage is most obvious if you ski a ton of rails and will be fine if all mt/ carving off jumps isn't as important to you. You just gotta feel out and decide what's your personal preference/ what's important to you.

I have mine at -1.5cm for what that's worth. Its all personal preference yo. Just try and match your riding style to the mount benefits or somewhere in between.
