there's honestly hardly a difference. PC's are cheaper, you can game on 'em. a ton more stuff is compatible with PC than mac. macs are great for editing video and pictures.

kinda dumb though, cause you can still edit stuff on a PC and still game on a mac.

go to the store, get what feels best to you, and what feels best to your wallet.

OS's: get Linux or Windows(if pirated). There's no sense in having an operating system you paid for, and if you're going with a Unix invariant there's no sense in using MacBloat OS Xshit Crapcat when you could have GLORIOUS linux fo free.


Hardware: Mac is overrated as far as hardware is concerned - overpriced, frilly, social currency.
Get PC and support your secondary parts market.

not yet....i feel like in 5 years, chromebooks will be completely viable computer options, but right now cloud technology is still developing and internet connection isn't necessarily a constant, making it a cool thing to look at and talk about but not a good option for the present.

PC. For me at least. I see no use in getting a mac as it's not as good/can't do the things i'd want to use it for. I guess it all comes down to preference.

I've had both an iMac (desktop) and a PC (desktop, laptop). For me, personally, I like my PC tons better. Main reason is customizability(?).

27-inch: 3.1GHz

3.1GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
2560 x 1440 resolution
4GB (two 2GB) memory
1TB hard drive1
AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 1GB

I'll never understand how that comes to equal $1999.99. Again. It all comes down to preference. I built my 3.4ghz i7 computer with 8 gigs of DDR3 ram, msi 6950 gpu and 1 tb hard drive for 1600. Also includes a 22in samsung LED screen, mouse and keyboard that are actually functional.

Windows are good for some things, but it always depends. If I were just doing word processing and business stuff I would probably get a windows.

That being said, I have had mac computers since the logo was a rainbow apple. I am used to them and know the OS, Ifind the hardware (like keyboards and trackpad) are nicer to use, and I also do music recording and love my mac for that.

I prefer mac. I have used both... My MacBook Pro is by far the nicest computer I have used though.

its a company, they make good but overpriced products due to their market power and thats it.

go into a fucking store, think about what you want to do with it, how it feels and then get a fucking pc

if you have no budget, get either. if not, get a PC. You'll get a better PC for whatever amount of money you'd be spending on a mac. For the price of the cheapest mac, you'll get a better PC. But if you're editing a lot, mac it is.

Funny because I believe PC's have plastic housing. The macbook is the only one with a plastic housing. I not even sure if its plastic. All other Macs are aluminum. Plus Macs have great hardware in them.

you can have similar/better components almost accross the board for a few hundred bucks less.

its superficial quality (case, keyboard) and design. if you want to pay for that so much, ok, but dont go out and say that there components are superior.

I don't understand this logic, sure Apple played a big part in helping Adobe start but Adobe isn't stupid, why make a program for one operating system that not everyone has? I have a PC (even though they are all personal computers), it's a desktop, not that it matters, I have CS5 and I have no problems with any of the programs over a mac. One of my profs said the only problem I would face is printing and post script. The only thing that post script affects is the printer, I don't own a $1000 printer so I can't have post script printing, no big deal when I can just to to the schools lab.

Just to clear the air, Apple is price skimming and using perceived value as their marketing technique to make more money and have reasons for charging hire prices when the fact of the matter is that the value is only just that perceived. A lot of 3rd party companies make way better peripherals.

No, I don't hate Apple, I just don't buy into their marketing techniques.

Make sure to get the 15" if your going to get a macbook pro. The 15" has quad core, i7, AMD radeon HD, speakers on the sides, and obviously a bigger screen.

Durability was a big issue for me after my Fujitsu exploded on the sidewalk. Macbook Pros are made from a solid aluminum casing that does a great job protecting them in a fall.

You pay for it though, suit your needs.

There are 2 reasons that justify buying a PC :

You are a hardcore gamer
You have limited money

If this is not your case, buy a mac.

People saying there are more programs available for PC, you do realize this is a skiing forum where the average age of user is 14. No one here needs the financial or engineering softwares only compatible with PC and even if it was the case, bootcamp would do the job.

Now let's be honest, the hardware is always more or less the same between mac and PC, usually cheaper for PCs (that's a + for PC). The reason mac is better (yes it is better) is the god damn operating system. No matter how you present it, windows has been total crap since windows 98, it's constantly crashing, settings change by themselves, etc. I did not realized it myself before i switched to mac years ago. OS X is incredibly stable, extremely user friendly and so intuitive that you learn pretty much everything there is to know in 2 weeks.

Yes, mac are more expensive. If you want to pay less and are ok with constant frustration, go for a PC. If you want to pitch in a couple more 100 bills, get a mac, no one regrets switching to mac.

$30 OSX vs. $250 Windows 7.. I mean just to say if you really wanted a mac and were on a budget, buy something like a dell, wipe the HDD and install a $30 copy of OSX. It will save you $1000+ for the same specs, yes Macs use no-name parts all the same, just with a flashy case (and track pad if you get a laptop).

I have 7. It doesn't crash for me, and rarely crashes for anyone. Probably the same as some Mac OS's, yes I hear that they also crash. I do have to admit that I hate how my settings will occasionally change on me (turning off sli and changing my theme when under load while sli is off) but it is an easy fix and nothing to get overly upset about.

I got a mac because they are less likely to get viruses, therefore i can watch as much porn as i want, including the weird shit that usually gets viruses, and i'm still fine.
