Reset a Macbook.

So my Macbook has recently been running slow and i'm almost 100% certain it is because I have 7GB of memory left on my hard drive. Now, I have an external hard drive that I would like to put all my files onto and then and then reset my macbook back to factory settings. I have backed my computer up on to the external using Time Machine, but I would like to be able to gain access to my iTunes library and documents after I wipe my hard drive (in my computer). If I wipe my macbook hard drive and then try to get my music and documents from my external won't I just have to restore my computer and be back in the same position?

Please help!

Cliffnotes: Macbook hard drive full, backed up onto External Hard Drive, after wiping macbook hard drive will I be able to retrieve files from external hard drive with out restoring macbook back to the full hard drive.

you can just plug it in and access them them like you can with any other drive...

But for example if I were to have everything deleted and then go to get my itunes library back how would I do that? Because when you go into your archives of past "back ups" and click on the itunes library it just shows you the information about the folder, it doesn't open it.

im not at my main computer right now, but you can 100% just dig through the folders of the final backup and pull out any file you want. Don't go into time machine, just click on the drive in finder.

Yeah, I use an external hard drive to back up my mac. Don't use time machine, it's a shitty program anyway and people often lose things using it. Just plug in the external and manually click and drag things over to it. Treat it like a giant flash drive. That's what I do with mine.

Okay well thank you Balto and Funkadelic, So I should un-format my drive from time machine, and then can you just drag the entire Macintosh HD file onto the drive? Or how do I transfer my entire Mac HD to my External HD?
