Exchange student at UC Davis want to ski around lake tahoe area!

Hi.

I´m a student from Norway planning to study at UC Davis from january 2012. Planning to buy a car asap when arriving US which can take me to the mountains...Can anyone recommend the resorts around lake tahoe? Just interested i deep pow - the park aint nothing for me.. :p
Some deals on season pass I should buy now before the prices get to high?

I go to Davis and got the triplethreat pass so I'll be hitting alpinemeadows and kirkwood. PM me when you get here man!

I´m considering the triple threat pass (kirkwood, meadows and homewood) or the lake tahoe super pass (squaw and meadows). I´ve been reading on the faq´s at squaw that you can combine the triple threat if you buy it at meadows, with skiing in squaw by paying the difference.

Any thoughts about Kirkwood vs squaw?

The ski scene is pretty good I'd say, don't really know what to compare it to. But if you like to go up to Tahoe there are definately people to go with. And as for the passes OP you can pay the difference and SWITCH to an alpine/squaw pass or stick with the triplethreat. I simply went with the triple to save $100 and because I have trouble finding people to go to Squaw. And for all mountain terrain and park I go to Alpinemeadows and Squaw is only for pow days but the lines sometimes make it not worth for non-locals such as myself. Haven't been to Kirkwood but I heard its epic and almost no lines but hard to get to on storm days.

Squaw-Alpine pass or the triple threat pass are good deals (though I personally recommend Squaw as the best place to go). Generally speaking, you might want to meet up with the Ski or Snowboard Club. I used to be part of and help run the club when I was an undergrad, and I still am friends with members now-it's a lot of fun. They make quite a few trips up during the winter, both day and weekend trips (though be warned-the cabin trips are super fun, but if staying in a cabin with 40-80 people throwing a huge party most of the night isn't your scene, then I would stay somewhere else. However going on the cabin trips gets you very cheap lift tickets if you don't have a pass, and a ride to Tahoe).
I still live in Davis (for vet school) so if you need someone to ski with hit me up :)
