In desperate need of help brainstorming photo project

you could do a shot of someone walking down the street while staring at their phone and have a nice view they are missing, only thing that came to mind

this would be sweet and maybe have a couple subjects and backs against the view on their cellulars or somethin

I think that you should make your topic less specific and you will have an easier time shooting. You will also have an easier time shooting if you pick a subject you really truly love. What about this topic do you actually really love? It's an idea, and yeah a good one, but I don't think it's necessarily going to work for a series. You want your work to speak for itself, if you have to explain your idea in every shot it's not going to hold up.

When it comes to choosing a topic to shoot for a series, people get caught up in this big grand idea (myself included), rather than shooting something they already love. If you shoot something you TRULY love and care about, it will be much easier to go out and take pictures as well as make good work. Getting 20 pictures for a series is hard work. Pick something really broad and you will be able to shoot so many different things for one idea.

Say you really enjoy skiing, and you enjoy skiing, why not shoot that? Shoot all aspects of skiing. Shoot people on the hill, shoot people getting to the hill, shoot what people eat there, shoot what they do after skiing, shoot how they get there, etc. Literally anything that has to do with skiing, you can shoot it.

Those are just my 2 cents. I've been in your position many times before trying to come up with an idea for a series and shot myself in the foot by picking a shit subject and then struggling to come up with photographs. If it's a struggle in the beginning, it's just going to get much worse. If you hate taking the pictures, or you see it as a chore, it's going to suck.

But if you are going to stick with your original idea, I wish you good luck. I can't really think of anything to convey that message myself. Hopefully the rest of NS can help with that one.

With the holidays coming people often forget that it is better to give then receive...might want to illustrate that into a photo

Hmmm yeah I might broaden it to simply cover the aspect where I'll hide things from the viewer, rather than have the fragmentation side of things being the driving subject. Would definitely open up doors. I do really want to have that be a part of the series though, I feel like it might open some minds if I convey it well enough. Thanks for the wise advice though haha, I'll definitely keep that in mind when choosing a topic for my next series.

always be broad about a subject. and if your picking a theme/concentration, go snookisvagina-broad. my theme is "experimentation", see how I can twist that to pretty much anytging?
