so im off to val for the season and want to know the do's and dont's and who's   out there this season ???

Do pray for snow (as there isn't any so far :D)

Don't underestimate the crevasses this very season (this cannot be mentioned enough)

And do time your days on the mountain to the time of the day = sun. Lots of north and south exposed slopes, so use the southern ones in the morning and the northern ones later in the day.

For partying, hit up Saloon Bar, Le Petit Danois and Folieduce. That's all I remember from my season, didn't get much skiing done. Which you should, cause the park is sick, and the BC even sicker!

It's very easy to get caught in partying mode without getting enough skiing done, it's a mistake way too many seasonaires do. The park is decent but you'll see that the rangers tend to be lazy and setup stuff very late in the season and not maintain it properly, especially the rails. Last year they had over 150 feet of unused rails... Do not underestimate the power of the mountain. The avalanche conditions are some of the worst you can find. In total, only in Val d'Isere/Tignes about 10 people died in avalanches last season. Do some avy classes and get backcountry equipment. If the snow suck all winter long like last season, party as hard as you can and hit the park at like 11 til closing. There are loads of girls for a ski resort and english girls are especially easy. If you go there for a job, try to find something with accomodation and a schedule that allows skiing(and partying if possible). Night receptionnist is a good job if you can manage the schedule. Doable but hard on your body. Have fun man !

Do enjoy the park its one of the best in the northern part of the alps
Do wake up early and get the first lift up. the resort becomes so busy especially over christmas time, you have to be prepared to miss some sleep if your partying.

Don't get sucked in too the jack wills rah rah rah attitude, 90% of those people are there for all the wrong reasons and don't even appreciate the mountain. in my experience they are far to pretentious and are just there to tell everyone about their new range rover! that they don't have. if you get my point

when your going wait till late, drinks are expensive and nothing gets going till around 11.00

Key advice. British 'seasonaires' (especially the Jack Wills clad ones), are one of the reasons why I have done seasons everywhere except Europe!

i am going out already for a job i am ski guide for two chalets and i have ski'd for years so im no jack willls rah hahahah but never knew avalanches were common there definatly going to do classes

cant wait to get out there just want it too snow got some bc gear today but looks like i wont neeed it for a whillllllle tilll snow is better

ps im guiding only piste

never beeen to val or tignes area before so never really come into contact  normallly ski austria  kamlooops area or the rockies

Don't refer to yourself as a ski guide unless you have UIAGM qualifications or similar.

What you're doing is ski hosting... they're worlds apart. It's a sweet job (with the right level of skiing), you'll get tipped if you do it right and its easy.. but you're not a ski guide.

For those who haven't been on a UK tour operator holiday or don't know what this is.. packaged holidays have "ski hosts" (i'm surprised any companies still refer to them as ski guides cause the legal shit they've had but I digress...), which is someone who skis with you and other guests for a few hours of the day. They show you the runs, the good places to stop off for a cafe etc... This shit is incredibly popular. Lots of people don't want to have to faf around with a piste map when they can have someone show them around.

thats why i said only piste as  i dont have my qualifications yet but should be on my way tooo them by the end of this season

if you happen to get to st. foy go to ZigZags rental and tell yoan i said hi, and go shred with him cuz hes a backcountry killer...

oh yeah- val d'isere snowpark is rad, hit it
and there's a shitload of backcountry/sidecountry stuff there but beware of avalanches

things have changed ha i di a lot of arva practice and been dialled on my tranciever finds in the practice place in le lac. . snows getting a bit shit now for off piste tagged way too many rockas after the few inches covere the bare ground last week

in seriousness. I forget its name but I'm sure you'll find it soon enough - a really good apres bar. Instead of like one/two happyhours when drinks are half price and then jump back up to full, prices gradually increase each hour through the evening, so get in early and you got drinks cheaper than I've ever seen in any alpine resort, let along val d.

Also, look out for my cousin Adam Blythe: he's chalet hosting this season!

Petit Danios! Haha, went there with my older brother and he group i was skiing with a few years ago when i was like 13 - Got shitfaced then took me like half an hour to get back up the icy hill between the pharmacy and the garage in ski boots. Good times.
