I'm looking to get a new helmet this year, anybody know much about the Bern Baker helmet? I've searchbarred but only found WTB/WTT's for them. I've always liked the style of the brimmed helmet, however safety and comfort are obviously more important. So any reviews?
Bern helmets are really comfort with or without the inner fleece, although I think they seem to run kind of small in sizes. They will fit just about any goggle too which is great. If you're going to buy one used just make sure it wasn't abused too much. Once you hit your head hard enough, the helmet isn't going to provide nearly any protection if you hit it again in the same spot.
I bought a watts this year and love it so far, basically the same helmet but with vents.
They make two options for shells, one is their hard hat version, which isn't cettified, and they also make a certified helmet. Avoid the hard hat, and get the certified.
I picked up a Bern watts from levelninesports.com on one of their sales, it's way comfortable, light and breathable. Also, in response to the guy saying they ran small, just make sure you use the size chart, mine fits perfectly and lines up right with the size chart.
I used a bern baker for about a year and loved it, would've kept it but the color didn't match my outfit so I bought something else. it fits really well with goggles on the outside or under the helmet and sits in a proper position with a beanie on (I cant tell you how many people wear a helmet with a beanie underneath and it's not sitting straight which offers absolutely NO protection whatsoever). the knit liner is useless tho so just rip it out.
