Mounting dilemma - quick help please

Bought a pair of invaders smoothly on here about 2 months ago I'd say. They had 2 toe mounts and 3 heel mounts, and I was aware of this when I bought them. I was planning on using them the entire season. Took them in to get mounted today at my shop and they said they couldn't do it because there too many holes in them.

Now I'm picking them up tomorrow, and I need skis to ride at killington on friday. I won't have time to get them mounted at a shop... should I even try to do it myself and with the help of my dad? I feel like it can't be that hard, just forward pressure would obviously be the big issue. Will they be strong enough with 2.5 mounts? My shop says no, but I've seen people say that 3 mounts is okay, I'd be at 3.5.

My only other real option is a pair of older invaders with brakeless PX12s on them, and I do not want to have runaway skis at killington.


Serious help only, trying to get this worked out ASAP. Don't be that guy who shits on a guy who needs help's thread.

Im no ski tech so I would say, Get a second and third opion from good shops who can do the work for you, see what they say.

Also Unless you've mounted ski proficently before or you know someone who has and can help you mount them, dont do it.  Your old ski sound good unless there really small or beat to hell, just make sure you carful where take your skis off.

Sacrifcing the first few days of the season to make sure your gear is solid is better then wreaking yourself and out for the season.

Thank you. I know I won't have time to get them mounted elsewhere (3 week wait at the other shop) so I might end up with my old skis. Fuck this

would 3.5 mounts be stable for someone 150 pounds on a pair of invaders?

would it be advisable to take off a broken mojo 12 heelpiece and have myself mount a marker griffon one in it's place? could this work? i need some answers!

if the shop says you cant mount em so there not good for anything anymore so... fuck it mount it yourself it cant hurt to try

just move the toe-pieces...  call killy and see if one of the ski rental techs can do it before you go up the mountain,  it only takes 20 minutes

Well, since the shop wont do it, you really have nothing to lose. Except maybe it breaking while you're skiing, and possible injury. But if you're ok with that, then go for it.

I've personally mounted 5 pairs of my own skis, mostly freehand with no jig at all, and I am by no means a professional. They dont always turn out picture perfect, but the holes are always good enough that it works. The screws might just screw in a little on angle if your hole is off.

Make sure you dont drill too deep (put tape or a stopper around your drill bit) and that your drill bit is the right size (3.5mm i think is standard).


As I said, many people will advise against doing this because it is unsafe (same argument as not adjusting your own bindings), but I do both. I understand that it is riskier than having it professionally done, but thats a risk I'm willing to take, and you are too, then go for it.

thanks to everyone's input... went and got them mounted about an hour ago. had a long talk with the guy because I just sat there as he mounted my sticks and he invited me into the shop with him.

seemed like a real cool dude... let me know that it is an industry standard that you cannot mount a ski more than three times. he said it basically makes the ski perforated and takes half as much energy to snap it in half.

took my friends skis (the brakeless ones) and (with his permission) put my griffons on there, so they're good to go for killy on friday.

turns out i'll need new boots soon too. fuck gear is expensive.

what i had to lose was a road trip to killy and a lift ticket or two. what happens if it comes out on the first run? maybe at my home mountain i'd try it, but i do not want to be several hundred miles from home with an unusable ski, trying to find someone to fix it so i can go use the rest of my lift ticket.

I kinda have a similar dilemma, I have 2 mounts on a pair of one lifes and I plan on taking my barons off and putting some p15's on. I'm hoping they can find room for them.

But on invaders you can turn the ski around and mount them backwards because it is 100% symmetric. Glad to see you resolved the issue though!
