this is a true story from this weekend and perfect for this thread... you know your friend is a gaper when he switches from snowboarding for two years back to skiing, buys the brand new t-wall hot doggers in blue, with old oakley white camo pants, and brownish gray jacket, a typical gaper giro helmet with some off shoot brand gold lens goggles. then after an hour picking out the boots you ask him, "Do you even know who Tom Wallisch is?" he says no...         ....its gonna be a long season and some work for this transformation from gaper to at least looking steezy

When he truly thinks that his rental Rossignol s1s are super dope skis and that they are better than my brand new recoils. Also when the same kid buys a full oakley prefered suit, then i tell him its cool that he got simons pro model suit, then subsequently asks who simon dumont is. Then i show him simons Revolver segment and says " ehhh, hes okay but im sure any of the dudes on Burtons team are much better" (im being completely serious)

I ride bmx 90 % of the year and the other ski 10 %

In bmx riding backwards = fakie

I just use it as a universal term. Get over it. Its not in set in stone. Sometimes I say switch sometimes I say fakie, I use both terms regularly.
