Ski boot shell-life

Ski boots (especially more modern ones) can last a LONG time if you take care of them, there are still people out there rocking rear-entry boots...

The main concern is going to be the sole of the boot, how worn out that is, if you walk around with your boots a lot of pavement or other hard surfaces they'll wear faster. The other thing to look at is the buckles, keeping them latched while not riding the boot will help them last longer (but if I remember, the supercharger has all metal buckles so they should be in pretty good shape). The liner is the thing on the boots that usually goes out first, but everything else on a good boot should last 5-10 years or even more if they're properly taken care of and not walked around in a lot.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I've seen someone break rear entry ski boots after a fall, but those boots are ancient and the plastics they used was no near what they are today, in terms of quality.

The main concern, as Flashkick said, will be the wear on the soles. Ski boots have a life that is more measured by usage than simply days of ownership, so you might get 5 years out of your boot, you might get 2 depending on how worn the soles get or damage from edges or other wear and tear.

Sometimes, a boot just dies from being beat on. Back when I used to fit LJ, he would go through pair of boots a season. Kid is super hard on his gear. His boots would be totally out of life by the end of the season.

This. It's all about the sole. Just check to the toe and heel to make sure they arent worn out. Wear on the heel or toe will make stepping into the binding way harder and towards the end of the boot could cause pre-release and injury.

Your boots are new enough that they most likely have replaceable toe and heel pieces. Any locale retailer can get you a new pair or you can try to find them online. new liner is definitely a good idea

Plenty of new boots dont have replacement soles.

Pretty sure these boots came out of the Beast or Dobermann mold and therefore do not have replaceable soles.

put them on and take them off in the lodge....or you could pick up a pair of cat tracks

I want to say I've seen some racer types with like some cover deal or whatever on their boots to keep the soles intact when walking on concrete. Maybe I just made that up but it's a good idea if you are worried about it.
