i just have a short question. I have up till now only had edge cracks on my skis, but never an edge pull out. on one of my skis, this seems likely now though. does an edge pull out affect the way a ski rides alot? i.e. is it very noticeable or annoying when skiing?
Honestly, I did not notice anything after I lost 6 inches of edge last year. Just swapped skis so it was on the outside edge and didn't notice at all. No internal damage either. Of course it's not good, but it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It was also spring skiing you can't really judge edge grip in mashed potatoes.
A pair of skis i have, have about 3 ft of edge missing on both right sides and the left side edges are pulling out with no edge crack (weird).
Skiing them sucks. If you have nice packed powder or powder its not to bad, but when its east coast hardpack or any other type of "snow" it is terrible. You cant carve at all nor stop turning to that side.
Now that is an extreme case of no edge, if you have a few inches missing it is not that big of a deal.
I lost about an inch of edge underfoot on my atomics. I continued to use them and my first drop on the summer set up, the exposed edge catches and rips out the entire edge to the tail. Like 24 inches got ripped out, and I ate shit. I would just get new skis if you lose edges, thats what I should have done
damn. i got atomics too. i hope theyll still last a while. theyve easily been my favourite ski. i like them more than my new domains, thats why i will continue shredding them. thanks for all the input. i guess its time to get used to the domains now. so far they have no edge crack and ive used them to ski indoor all summer, to keep my punx for real mountain shredding, on real snow.
