Henrik on armada am team?

sorry if it's a repost but I'm on my itouch but I saw the new welcome to armada henrik harlaut edit and was shocked he's on the am team like WTF he just downgraded from pro on 9th to am on armada what's the deal

It's not that surprising to me. Look around to other companies and see who their ams are. As an active NSer, you most likely have an incredibly skewed view of who is a good skier and either forget or don't realize the business sense of what a company gains by sponsoring a certain skier. Look at what henrik does: sure he competes in the highest level but he isn't ever on the podium and he doesn't get much exposure in videos. Sure he has B&E but that's not a high budget endeavor and if you would poll the people who watch the xgames or dew tour, would even a quarter of them have heard of B&E? No. The pros should be the skiers that the people who watch the major events can recognize and remember what ski they were on. That is the demographic that buys the most park skis. Henrik has a cult following, not much more.

the only fucked up thing about armada's team is that Phil Casabon is on the pro team and Gus is not.
Yes hate away and say that phill is the best skeir in the world and so styley la de da, Phill hasnt won anything important ever, and Gus is world champ.... so yeah.

My thoughts on pro/am status:

1. Timing. After looking at their team, it seems Pro status encompasses more than strictly results. JP and Tanner obviously. As for Jacob and Phil, they've stuck with Armada for a while. Am team - Hornbeck, Torin, and now Henrik have each been on the team no longer than approximately 2 years (hornbeck joined summer '09?) It seems based on how they operate, rocketing someone straight to pro status upon joining the team would require a very justifiable explanation.

2. Politics? Not so sure on this, but having a tiered team like this may have the potential of pissing people off? Obviously Gus has top notch results, and sticking with the brand for a few more years will likely place him on the Pro team....... it's hard to immediately place most athletes up there on the Pro team ahead of these Ams who obviously kill it hard.

How the hell does Armada differentiate between pro and am? I usually say pros get paid, ams dont, but there is no way that every single one of those guys on the so called am team doesn't receive a paycheck from Armada at some point. It seems to me that the National Team members are the true "ams".

phil has had consistent top 5 placings at x games for several years now. not to mention podiums in a few events. one of the most consistent skiers in the biz.

A lot of it has to do with the contracts the athletes make.

what does phil do that Henrik doesnt?!.........nothing..they make B&E shows and participate in competitions.

Then on the other hand, what does Gus do that Phil doesnt? he is the AFP champion, hes a Dew medalist, constantly getting top 10 or podium finishes in other big events..he is, a professional competitive athlete
How am i a fool to argue that Gus deserves to be on the pro team ahead of Phil? or atleast question the logic behind it.

This is how Armada has been doing things for years...

Armada Pros are long standing members of the Armada team who have had a profound impact on skiing.

Tanner Hall

Jp Auclair

Jacob Wester

Phil Casabon


Armada Ams are pros by any other brand's measure. Armada puts these guys on the AM first, and eventually they get promoted to the pro team.

It happened with Casabon, Schiller, Wester... everyone who isn't a founding member has to climb their ranking system.

I'm sure Henrik doesn't give a fuck what the website says, same for the rest of the "am team" you're all bitching about and never paid attention to before this incident. They get to ride some of the best skis out there for what they are doing and probably don't care one bit so please let this topic die. Sorry I had to bump this shitty thread in order to type this.

In the middle/top: Am - relatively new pros who haven't been there long enough to be on the pro list

although this is kind of true, one of your points is invalid, phil and harlaut have pretty much the exact same resume, and harlaaut has put up better comp results. Phil was on the am team for a while and then got moved to pro, don't worry children of ns, henrik could make the leap this year. Also i'm pretty sure their am athletes have a paying contract.

Often heard about ninthward riders do not always receive their paychecks "in time". When it comes to money and support a well known AM on a well known company is probably much better than a Pro of a young brand.

Compared to Dumont, Rolland, Elias, TJ........

Go back to my NS kids having a skewed concept of what a good skier is and how the pro skiers should be the ones that the people who watch xgames and dew tour on tv should be able to recognize and remember so they'll buy that skiers pro model the next year.

...and that's where my point fails. I still believe in what i said though about who the pros should be. Theres not enough money for everyone to be pro. The armada making skiers go up the totem pole point sounds pretty plausible at this point.

I've always thought that Henrik was a little under-recognized, sponsor wise. Ya he hasn't won x-games, but I mean how long has he been skiing for ninthward? Seems like he was way above that level for a while...ninthward is a kind of a joke.

I wouldn't want Harlaut representing my company as a pro athlete. I mean sure he's a great skier, but the whole gangster image he and Casabon puts up is the deffinition of UNprofessional to me.

I guess that's true from the viewpoint of 95 % of newschoolers. I would rather have people like Andreas Hatveit, Jon Olsson and Jossi Wells representing my team of professional skiers. Henrik's skills are on a professional level, there's no doubt. But his fake gangster attitude just doesn't do it for me.

On a serious note, I'm a big Tanner fan but I'll never understand why Tanner thinks he's from Jamaica. I mean, skiing is usually done on snow where the cold weather reigns not on a sunny beach in Jamaica..

no but he does appear much more professional on a large stage like the X-games. The companies want an athlete who will bring in new people to their company. most kids who have been skiing for a few years already have their loyalties and preconcieved notions, so they are harder to influence.

Companies want a skier who will bring in fresh money to the indusry, and quite frankly HH doesnt really do it. he is a cult hero to those already knowldgable about the industry.

Tanner has his moments, but when he does win comps, or is put in front of a national audience, he is 100% all about repping his sponsors in a professional manner.

Im pretty sure HH doesnt know how to speak normal english, all he knows is ebonics.
