I had a weird strain of bacterial A meningitis two years back in my first year at junior high. The doctors hadn't seen it before. Lucky me.
Nothing like what you've experienced though. I went deaf with treatment (fuckloads of antibiotics to kill the bacteria before they killed me (yes, probably way different to yours)) which, upon exposure to bacteria, caused them to release toxins. Basically into my head.
I woke up deaf after the first night, with a complete inability to sit up in bed. It hurt too much. My body was too stressed, and my vestibular nerves (balance) had basically been killed off along with my hearing.
It did suck, I'll say that now, but at the time I just thought; "shit happens, carry on", and that's what I did. I don't know if I would have remained sane if I didn't have that approach to the whole ordeal.
I had to relearn to walk again, it took me a whole two weeks just about to be able to sit up in bed. I'm completely deaf, but have two cochlear implants http://www.google.co.nz/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=cochlear%20implants&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CDwQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FCochlear_implant&ei=nSXITsiJKO-ZiAeBu4X2Dw&usg=AFQjCNEjXDujblITTTgvWOJyiMEqELJVlg which give me a form of hearing, but my balance will never fully recover. My balance is better than it was always expected to be though. I was told that I would never enjoy sport again.
Now I'm back skiing, progressing further and further every time I go out. Nobody knows me to be any different from the other guns I ride with. I do DH longboarding, and everything's fine in my life. I guess they didn't expect me to do any better than other patients, who gave up on their dreams. It's sad to see.
I'm living mine. My dream. I ski. I skate. I'm doing well in school. And I have some great people in my life.
Just keep your eyes on getting back to where you were. No matter what they tell you, you are the only one who can choose what you do. Just take things easy for the next couple of months. When you start to ski/ride/skate again, it will be hard. Really hard. You'll be frustrated by the lack of coordination you may have, but trust me, it gets better. Stay strong, persivere with training your body up, and you.will.succeed. Just don't let your mind slip.
Mental shit; depression and cyclothymic disorder are things that are irrelivant in this instance.
can i say holy fucking shit. vibes to you guys
